Oh, absolutely.

The problem is the source. The russians never do anything without expecting to gain something in return.
They definitively don't believe in sharing with their civilian population their finds.
IMO this is some desinformation campaign with some dark and stupid goals that we cannot even understand.

Maybe they are just telling the US Navy that they "know" about whatever is the latest and secretest navy project.
