and besides, criticizing Cuba while keeping our mouth shut about Saudi Arabia is a tad silly, if our goal is to bring democracy everywhere.

Hey I am fine with criticizing whomever. I just don't think it makes much sense to have our foreign relations dictated by other countries internal policies, no matter how shitty. The reason we had the embargo of Cuba was because they were a Soviet ally and kept sending guerrilla soldiers abroad. Since they are no longer a Soviet ally nor are they sending soldiers abroad anymore I don't think there is much point continuing with the embargo.

bad choice of word.  I agree with you.

Why are we talking about "Africans" anyways? I could make a statement that "Europeans" follow Viktor Orban religiously, and it would not be incorrect, but still would be a brush too wide to paint with.

Because, Jacob wanted to find something positive to say about Castro?

Because Africa was the framing used in the conversation I was relaying.

CdM is just supporting any socialist because socialised healthcare is the only chance he gets to save his liver after years of alcohol abuse and no meaningful employment. The thing is, under President Donald J. Trump it ain't gonna happen.

You're being a dick again. Take a break.

The Minsky Moment

Quote from: viper37 on November 28, 2016, 09:37:47 AM
But then during the campaign, the Conservatives decided to go one step further and create a hotline for barbaric cultural practices.  It was a step too far, but then Justin decided to play the racism card and started pandering to the extremists who could get the vote out and denounced the hotline and the bill.  No journalists pointed the fact that he did vote for it though, but that was expected.

SO bottom line is that the quote is false?
The purpose of studying economics is not to acquire a set of ready-made answers to economic questions, but to learn how to avoid being deceived by economists.

Then stop doing it.  Problem solved.

Yeah for sure.

The exciting Candadian context of the comparison is that the people throwing fits over Trudeau's statements of condolence re: Castro didn't say anything when Harper offered condolences and spend money on a delegation re: King Abdullah when he passed.

Personally I think the whole thing is a bit silly. I'm fine with our prime ministers offering condolences when leaders and elder statesmen of nations with whom we have friendly relations die - which includes both Cuba and Saudi Arabia.
