Aparently it's 119 billion, with the actual barrier at 'only' 12-18 billion. That sounds about right.

What costs 119 billion?

Not sure, paywall:

But I would guess the 12-18 is for the barrier across the Hudson estuary, plus a lot of shoring up of the coasts on Long Island and New Jersey

QuotePicture a storm charging toward New York City, pushing a surge of seawater like the one that flooded the region during Hurricane Sandy. But this time, man-made islands with retractable gates stretch from the Rockaways in Queens to a strip of land in New Jersey south of Staten Island.

The gates swing shut. A six-mile-long wall blocks the deluge, saving property and lives.

The giant barrier is the largest of five options the Army Corps of Engineers is studying to protect the New York area as storms become more frequent, and destructive, on a warming Earth.

The proposals have sparked fierce debate as New York, like other coastal cities, grapples with the broader question of how and to what degree it must transform its landscape and lifestyle to survive rising seas.
"If you think this has a happy ending, then you haven't been paying attention."

It'd be easier just to wall Manhattan off and leave it to the criminals.

Too late, the Trumps seem to have moved to Florida for good.

A massive 200 Billion Dollar Sea Wall, built around New York to protect it from rare storms, is a costly, foolish & environmentally unfriendly idea that, when needed, probably won't work anyway. It will also look terrible. Sorry, you'll just have to get your mops & buckets ready!

At last, a president who understands the Army Corps of Engineers.

:P ;)
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

Well, to be fair, this is all twitter crap. Nothing on paper yet. We'll see.

I think it's probably more the EU is just looking to avoid a stupid tariff war with Trump in an election year, banking on him not being around after the election. If he's reelected they'll have to take firm battle positions at that point. Trouble before then might just be trouble for no real reason that will cost a lot of money for European businesses.

I don't know much about French politics, but I do know that Macron is not well liked.  Why are people pissed at him?
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Well for one: he is President. Nobody in France likes the President.
