Yeah this is the step I just cannot take.

I don't hate my opponents but man it just makes me so sad and I feel so hopeless about the extent that everybody hates each other. It just seems unlikely to end well.

Your lack of revolutionary zeal has been duly noted by the Comité de Salut Public. Consider yourself warned.

As someone who grew up with rather dry Tories it is crazy seeing them promise to cut taxes, increase public spending, reduce regulations (while protecting workers and environmental protections) and increase the minimum wage

I feel like their could be a gap for a party (if one existed) running on a pro-business, small state platform.

One might want to ask them why we had 10 years of austerity measures given all these magic money trees (a positive orchard!) we appear to own.

Josquius

Its interesting in a way. This is the sort of thing they've been attacking Corbyn for. Now they've reached a point where people just accept Corbyn = bad and they're free to spend as they like

Interesting that apparently the internal polling isn't going well for Johnson (the Mori tracker has him holding steady on approval/satisfaction of about 37% but disapproval/dissatisfaction of about 55%), very bad numbers, unsurprisingly, on competence apparently. And I imagine the two current sex scandals aren't helping.

Still Corbyn's on -65 approval so...

Unrelated saw a Labour MP who was open to a deal saying they're now going for a more remain stance because no matter what you do it isn't enough for a lot of the Leavers, so you might as well try and please Remainers.

 :bleeding: :weep:

So the grand plan for the Irish border is basically border posts 5-10 miles away from the border.

Seriously the ignorance and lack of care for Ireland is so infuriating. I understand what unionists are saying, but equally republicans will not accept any indication of a hard physical infastructure on the island. This is part of the reason there used to be soldiers on the border: republicans would target border posts (away from the border); the RUC would guard the border posts and republicans would target the RUC; so you need soldiers to guard the RUC.

Edit: Meanwhile a senior adviser has quit No. 10:
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/sep/30/veteran-boris-johnson-aide-quits-as-downing-street-adviser

And Lynton Crosby is already briefing that he's not being listened to enough and Johnson is listening to Cummings too much. Plus No 10's line is this is all the Westminster bubble and when Johnson meets real people he's great, which as Matt Chorley said, used to be the line about Gordon Brown

Edit: There are few things as funny as hearing a Tory party conference trying to cheer obvious applause lines. Eg:

I would love to see American politicians giving a speech to this audience.

Willful ignorance about Europe, Ireland, and British foreign policy, has been the most shocking thing to me about the whole ordeal.

Yeah. The biggest source of political instability and potential violence in the entire UK. One would think that would be something the government of the UK would concern itself with.

It is so weird. They act like Northern Ireland is some kind of distant foreign country, it was barely mentioned in the freaking referendum debate when it should have been issue #1. How parochial is this supposed national government?

Very parochial. I don't think they even understand Birmingham, so the likelihood of understanding Scotland let alone NI is nil.

They are drawn from a very shallow pool. Oxford is supposed to be one of the best universities in the world; perhaps it is only their PPE course, but my opinion of Oxford is very low; what a band of utter bellends they are.

No data behind it and purely based off my observation. But I hold that you're only looking at a quarter of leave voters absolute max, more likely a lot less, who would choose who to vote for based on brexit stance. With those opposed to brexit, after 3 years of it, I think the numbers are larger.

The smart approach for pro-remain MPs to take IMO would be to underline that we've wasted 3 years on brexit and even leaving won't be the end of it, the only way to kill it and get to work on important issues is to cancel.

Heh, we get those in Catalonia all the time. Fun times.

When did citizens become enemies? It's such a downward spiral of divisiveness everywhere you look.

Yeah, over here it's getting to sickening levels.

For example, we had a piece of news today saying that 50% of home rental contracts signed in Catalonia now carry a clause banning the display of political signs on the façade of the building, since "flag wars" are a thing now.

I don't know, that's pretty standard here for rental contracts.

I think the case here in London too. At least for some properties.
