For his third birthday I got my kid one of these remote control tanks: http://www.meritline.com/rc-battling-tank-set-blue---p-64022.aspx

IIRC I paid like $22 shipped.  Anywho, I had no flippin' clue how fun this thing would be, nor that you could set up two to fight against each other using the IR transmitter/sensor.

So I ordered another when it went on sale & we've been battling it out on my hardwood floor (I let him win most of the time).  Thought I had a video on my phone to post but I can't find it.  In any case, it's an awesome toy for all ages :)

Sounds cool. Especially for the price.

What is that?  A Merkava?
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Leopard II.

Yeah, and it even comes with a little MG3 you can mount for the loader.  I thought it was a Merkava until I opened the box.

The tracks work independently, hence the dual sticks on the controller.  Took some coaching to get Tommy to figure that out.  The turret rotates kind of slow so you really only use it for fine-tuning your aim.

But the functional detail is impressive.  It has a speaker that adds track noise and the tank shakes when you fire the main gun as if it were recoil.  Plus the machinegun sounds cool when you fire it.

Doesn't it cement traditional gender identities as well? :)

Not if the kid ends up humping the tank.

True although I'm not sure that such sexual fetishism has anything to do with gender identity formation.

Wow, I wish I had one of those when I was a kid.
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

I thought a Leopard II had seven road wheels.  That one has six.
