I was outside today and sweating in the sun. I'm not sure why I didn't come to Palm Springs sooner.

I drank because I wanted to drown my sorrows, but now the damned things have learned to swim.

Do your thesis on Samuel Adams.

Do your thesis on Samuel Adams.
Not quite relevant to my subject.

I've got a good idea of something to do if I were to do a pure academic thesis at uni but I'm wanting/needing a company placement one yet there are no listings or anything.

You mean they won't be able to write checks, or won't be able to withdraw any money at all?

They won't be able to do anything.  I turned off their cards, disabled bill payment & shut down their ATM machines.

FDIC should start cutting checks tomorrow to pay out the insured accounts, but the account-holders will have to make do with credit cards or accounts at other banks (lesson here is to diversify) until their checks arrive.

I'm thankfull this will probably never happen to me.

NPR did a long series of reports on the Climate Change conference during my drive from Iowa to Georgia, and couple of side stories on Denmark.  Denmark always ranks at or near the top of lists of happy countries, and according to the Danish sociologist they interviewed the reason for the happiness is the large number of relationships they have with equals.

He also mentioned that the downside is that it is very hard for immigrants to break into what is in effect a large extended family.  I was reminded of this story while reading Slag's Swedish immigrants suck thread.

The odds of any of the Big Five going down is pretty remote, even CIBC.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

And my money isn't even into one of those.

So I got a look at the DVDs the school ordered:

Simpsons season 1-5, the Harry Potter movies, and a few other good movies, RomCom and comedies, action  flicks like The Mummy - Good

Paths of Glory, Nosferatu, a collection of Academy Award winning Shakespeare movies (like Lawrence Olivier's Hamlet) - Okay... I can't see the students being slightly interested in them, but I'll watch them.

Silence of the Lambs - WTF?

I also showed them half of The Last Samurai yesterday. They like it, although they particularly liked the scene with the Japanese Emperor, given how they laughed at his appearance and mocked is pronunciation of "thank you"

Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
