Besides I'd had you down as the rather 'eccentric' un-married 2nd brother of a major villiage family, who now spent most of his time distilling unusual liqueurs in his still in barn.

I could do some variant of the British eccentric, definitely.  And I have been known to make my own vermouth from my secret recipe (requiring like 10 minutes on the stovetop rather than years in a still, mind), so yeah, I could swing it.

EDIT:  But as my dad would say, for the American context at least: "What's the difference between a nutjob and an eccentric?  A million dollars."   :(

I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

I think I'd enjoy being a blacksmith or carpenter. Not that I can actually do either, but I'd still put fhdz to work.
Winner of THE grumbler point.

I don't think we want you as our property, slavery being in the dustbin of history and all that.

I met a man who wasn't there
He wasn't there again today
I wish, I wish he'd go away...

I'll be the guy sitting in the village pub, rambling about his grandiose schemes that never materialize.

So sixteen guys sitting in the tavern and four village idiots.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE A FUNCTIONING LABOR MARKET.

I burn meri as a move action.  Oooh, I rolled a 20.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

I'd run the village atomic bomb program and tabletop miniature gaming nights.
