I think it's more of a concern how you'd get them to stop.

(Very keen on upcoming Count of Monte Cristo, by the by...)

Edit: Went to see the Gance Napoleon at the BFI and it was fantastic. Five and a half hours in and he's finally ready to invade Italy
Let's bomb Russia!

I like the image on wiki of guys dressed up like the Imperial Guard to promote the film in 1927.

I remember when i was 14 or so, I found a copy of Hustler at a friend's cottage. And they had a parody in it, called. "Lawrence of A Labia".

Just thought I'd mention.

It got pushed back a lot. I can't wait (though I'm literally going to wait to watch it until the weekend :D).

Delicious in Dungeon. An anime on Netflix. I like cooking. It has its share of cliches, but seems to lean into them.

Only Murders in the Building has been pretty good. I'm surprised and impressed they manage to keep things funny.

PDH!

Yes, really liking the new season of Only Murders so far. The absurdity has gone up a notch, though. :D

Season 1 of Resident Alien on Netflix. I liked it and thought it was quite funny. Mind you, I watch it admittedly more for the characters and their interactions than the actual plot itself - there's a couple of holes IMO.

While I like most characters and their quirks (and their performers doing great jobs), the absolute star of it all is Alan Tudyk who is the perfect cast for this role.  Always been a fan of his since Firefly, and happy to see him in a starring role like this. (And nice touch having Nathan Fillion as uncredited voice cameo in one episode.)

Also, shoutout to Gary Farmer - recently re-watched Dead Man where he played Nobody; love seeing more of him. Also, good small role for Linda Hamilton. :)

Now I have to find :pirate the other two seasons.

I found the Monte Cristo film a bit disappointing, but I was mega-hyped for it (it's one of my favorite novels). I thought the adaptation of the text was reasonable given the constraints of feature film length, although I didn't love how they changed the ending. But the film was just... uninspired. Thought the previous musketeers movies had more panache (if flawed in their own ways).

Quote from: Valmy on September 07, 2024, 04:05:06 PMIt is very Marvel-esque in its tone. I am going to see it with my son.

Yeah, makes me think Transformers of the Galaxy.

As it turns out the previews played up that much more than it actually was in the film. I mean there are moments of MCUness but it is more toned down than I feared.

I really liked it, it was the sci fi Transformers movie I wanted. If you are a fan you will really enjoy it.

The Goonies!

Still awesome.

The Brain

Finished the Netflix Menendez series. Entertaining, high quality. I didn't remember many details from back in the day. The looks of the Menendez actors though made me think throughout the series that if it had been made in the 90s it would have starred Scott Wolf and Casper Van Dien.

ARA San Juan: The Submarine that Disappeared. Multi-part (Argentinian?) documentary about the Argentinian submarine that disappeared in 2017. The accident has always felt a bit close to home because I saw the sub in Ushuaia in Patagonia just two weeks before it disappeared. As expected it is a story of poor weather, corruption, likely penny-pinching, likely imperfect training, conspiracy theories, culture of silence and absence of closure.

The attitudes of Argentinians to the Falklands really rub me the wrong way, but thankfully the documentary very clearly dismissed the "the-British-sank-her" conspiracy thery.
