This is what really confuses the non-WIERD ROTWers, what sort of convoluted evil plan was behind invading Iraq, destroying the country and then giving all the oil to China. Considering how much blood and treasure was spent they are just waiting for the other shoe to drop and see what our evil plan was. What the cannot fathom is that we never had a plan. We really wanted a peaceful happy and rich Iraq all the while, just like we said initially.

True.  The War in itself would be profitable to some, but not enough to justify an invasion.

I still think that, with the information at the time, it was a good decision to invade Irak.  But the plan was badly flawed from the beginning and has cost many lives for nothing.

I am still unsure if the Syria (wait and see) is for the best.  Iraq still doesn't seem that stable, not really a liberal democracy either.  Syria is in chaos, as much dead bodies as in Irak, probably more, but no one is blaming the US for that.

An invasion of Syria might have resulted in the same problem as in Iraq, though, and we would see the same mess we see now, but with NATO troops in the middle.
