Title: What Mods Are You Using?
Post by: Queequeg on May 24, 2009, 08:12:29 PM
I stopped playing unmodified games a long time ago.  Currently playing:

EB

Rusichi, a fucking beautiful Medieval Russian mod for MTW2K:

Might have to give the mount and blade one a try. Never have with any modern era ones yet.

Huh.  I know the Russians are backward but did they really fight the civil war with swords and shields?  Explains the symbol of the KGB though.

Huh.  You followed the link, and got something with swords and shields?  I got something with swords and Nagants and Lugers.

A bit naff that they kept the same map intact.
Can't be arsed to get into M&B from scratch again right now. Maybe I will when its more finished.

I've recently discovered some interesting mods that make Frontier First Encounters playable (literally):

Still seems crappy to me, can't be arsed to figure out the controls. But...tempting.

The black squiggles are called "writing."  Decipher that and you will discover that it constitutes an introduction to the mod.

And, lacking pictures and the deciphered writing, how did you deduce that the RCW mod had shields?

I haven't used a TW mod since Rome:TW.

I use a whole host of mods for Oblivion and Morrowind.

Apart from that, I use MMP for EUIII and some graphics mods for FM 2009 and HoI2. To use more mods, I would have to be more of a gamer, I think.

I've stopped bothering with mods. Especially the TW mods, as most of them seem to put a kajillion cities on the map, and seem to be made by pathetic history nerds.

Rusichi's models are near perfect, probably as good as anything in Vanilla ETW.  Really impressive mod.

Although I am not adverse to using mods, I do think Beeb and others made salient points in another thread about how they unbalance games. All too often mods are written by politically motivated nationalists/morons.

Depends on the mod, and I think it is fair that in some mods the Ottomans are stronger than, say, the Mamelukes or the Hungarians.

Exactly, but leave it to an Eastern European and you have Vlad Dracul and the Hungarian Hyundai conquering India.

Latest mod for Mount & Blade I am trying out; "The Wedding Dance"...

http://forums.taleworlds.net/index.php/topic,58995.0.html

Cautioned as a "21 or older" mod, with extensive customization (as you can guess, nudity).

I don't think it is purely intended as M&B porn, but it probably could be.  It started out well, with a neat little story effect involving your slain parents, and joining your brother and sister setting off to avenge their deaths.

It has a customized map, and as I started wandering about, thought I'd try my first combat against some roving barbarians.

A couple of them, the leaders apparently, were in "Mad Max"-style bondage wear (fitting, being this combat took place in the desert) and wearing cow skulls on their heads.  Alas, their lesser minions were completely starkers...penis and all.  And apparently, probably due to graphics limitation, always erect...even when lying flat and dead.

Should be interesting...but hopefully there will be less dicks in my next combat.  :D

I've finally found a mod to play Planescape: Torment (and all other Infinity Engine games) with screen resolutions bigger than 800x600  :w00t:

Did anyone mod Medieval TW2 so the AI isn't so bizzare.  I started playing that game again and Strategic AI annoys me greatly.  Armies tramp around  without any real purpose.  The Hungarians who were at war with the Egyptians got to their territory and just spend the whole time wandering back and forth.  The AI just doesn't seem to do anything besides pick fights with me.  Oh they'll declare war on me but that's about it.  For instance the mongols invaded from Persia.  They declared war on everyone in their path which was the Turks and the Egyptians.  Of course they didn't attack any of their cities.  God no!  No they passed by 3 cities till they all crowded around my town of Antioch.  And then attacked that.  Oddly I could use a diplomat to create a cease fire every round and even an alliance (which they seemed very greatful for) but the next round they would break it and siege the city again.  After a few rounds of this silliness   I let them come and take the city (and my poor gay emperor Hugo who was in there).  I did take there of their generals down at least but I've kinda given up and want to look for a mod or something.  I don't mind the vanilla (just the right number of cities and all) but the AI annoys the hell out of me.

The WWII-in-China mod is better, mostly because you can buy guns at the stores.
Don't know why, but when I go to any store in the RCW mod, all they offer are grenades, bayonets, swords, axes, staffs, and throwing knives.
