QuoteSilvio Berlusconi 'to pay ex-wife 36m euros a year'
Italy's former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has agreed to pay 36m euros (£30m; $48m) a year to his ex-wife Veronica Lario, reports say.
Berlusconi will keep the $100m villa where the couple lived with their three children, as part of a divorce deal reportedly filed on Christmas Day.
Ms Lario left Berlusconi in 2009 after he was seen at the 18th birthday party of an aspiring model.
US magazine Forbes estimated his wealth at nearly $6bn in March.
The Corriere della Sera newspaper reported that Ms Lario, 56, had initially asked for $56m a year.
Her 76-year-old ex-husband reportedly offered her about $5m.
The couple met in a dressing room in 1980 after Berlusconi saw Ms Lario perform in a Milan theatre.
They were married in 1990.
He has two other children from his first marriage and is currently engaged to 28-year-old Francesca Pascale .
Berlusconi was Italy's longest-serving post-war prime minister until he resigned in November 2011.
He says he will run for office again in 2013.
His third term in office saw slow growth and a national debt of $2.6 trillion and his government was slow to implement austerity measures in response.
He also became embroiled in a series of financial and sex scandals.
Since leaving office, he has been fighting various court cases.
In October 2012, he was sentenced to four years in jail by a Milan court after being convicted of tax evasion.
He is currently appealing against the decision, and commentators say it is unlikely that he will serve any time in jail.
Why not just have her killed?
Is that a lot in that Euro money?
I'd say I'm surprised that even Italy would elect that pig for their PM again, but really it'd only be a surprise if he loses.

It's roughly $4M. Would that be enough for you to live off as a monthly income?

I really should have taken alimony in my divorce.

Wouldn't that have gone bye bye when you got remarried?

Not always. Sometimes, it continues for a set amount of time. In my case, when it was brought up, I would have received alimony for five years regardless of remarriage. It was half the length of our marriage, and because I took care of house and home he was able to build his career. Basically, they saw it as payback for the time I put in on his career.
I deferred. :(
You ex husband is one lucky son of a bitch. :)

Did you defer in favour of an even larger property settlement? :)
Damn, I'd fuck Berlusconi for that money...
Me too.
Fags.

It's not gay if it is for 3,000,000 a month.
Doesn't he earn close to billion a year? Shit. He's not even paying OJ money.

Nope. That would actually make sense. :(
It was an honor thing. I thought, rather stupidly, that that was taking advantage of the whole "divorce helps women" thing. And since I was a fully capable person, I wasn't going to take his money. So, this fully capable person ended up taking a shit job as a waitress instead of taking that money and going back to school.

Bask in the knowledge that you did the right thing. Alimony is evil. :goodboy:

I'd make a comment here about why women are their own worst enemies when it comes to stuff like that, but that would be impolite.

It is unethical for lawyers to take contingency fees in divorce cases, so it shouldn't have mattered.

So they always take contingency fees in divorce cases?

It didn't except that I was slightly disabled at the time, and he thought that it was rather silly of me to give up the cash. He argued it pretty forcefully.
The truth is that while the money would have been nice, it was nowhere near the three million Euros we're talking about in this thread. I'd have probably not been as "honorable" had it been so.
