I found this and this has to be a bit of an in joke at the maritime designers.

QuoteRISSA: Fjord Line's new ferries will start sailing across the Skagerrak during 2013 and, according to the company received a special design which will make crossing the high seas more comfortable.
The Fjord Line itself is referred to as a "potent bulb" arrives at the new ferries, are obliged to limit resistance, reduce fuel consumption and provide greater stability for ships.
- We have worked with the hull shape for a long time where this bulb is only a part of several design elements. We made lots of analysis to reach the optimal structure of the hull, says Per Edvin Tande to Fædrelandsvennen.
Tande is production manager at Bergen Fosen Group in Trondelag where Fjord Line's new ferries now being finalized.
The new ferries being marketed as ferries and cruise to sail between Langesund Hirtshals, Stavanger. According Fjordlines press release "sticking the potent bulb literally up"
Bulben to reduce resistance when the ship sails and neutralize the waves as the body itself creates.
- This means that the ship as a whole generates small waves and thereby reduces resistance effectively, in that the wave form is a large part of the resistance of a ship, said Tande in the release.
so, apparently we should now refer to ships by the pronoun "he" rather than "she" as traditionally has been done.
Upwards bending bulbs has been around for a long time. The camera perspective makes it difficult to judge just how positive it is but it certainly looks a bit extreme. :)

I was actually shocked this wasn't NSFW given the photo angle.

The DOF is actually what's making it hard to guess, but it looks like the upward tilt is around 30-35 degrees.
