So, Obama has basically taken a popular, moderate GOP governor from his position and shipped him off to Beijing for the next few years, denying him a chance at the GOP ticket in 2012, but making, at least IMO, a very strong candidate in 2016.

How does that make him a strong candidate for 2016? When was the last time a former ambassador won the Presidency? Bush sr. unless I miss my guess, and he was Vice President after that.

It's ridiculously early to be judging candidates for 2012, far less 2016.

But I'd say that I think being a governor over the next few years will actually really test governing quality and will possibly effect the governor-bias in the past 50 years in the White House.  In terms of future career prospects I think the next few years will be hell for Governors, especially in states like Arizona and Florida.

Nonsense.  At least the man has familiarity with the region, the issues involved with the nation, and speaks their fucking language.
This should be the model of what abassadorships should look like.

I agree that it's a great choice for ambassador. I jsut also think  it's a great choice for Obama.
