So, seven years to the day, the Gulf Coast is fixing to be boned up the rectum by Isaac.

Thankfully the rest of the Republican party now does. Didn't you hear Palin's comments vis-a-vis Biden?
Shit, you are a bunch of heartless fucks.
I'll be here in Mississippi, saving America for democracy yet again. Seven years to the day.
Apparently, I live in a land mass between NOLA and Mobile.
Looks like a lot of rain for AL and LA, and that state in between I can't remember now.
:P
There's a state in between, all I remember is a couple hours of staring at kudzu. :hmm:
Without Mississippi you couldn't play touch football.
Looks like AmScips office hours are going to be affected.
I'll still be busy violating people's rights on Friday.

Without Mississippi we would have to look for another worst state of the union. Well, we'll quickly find it right next door, but assuming Louisiana goes too, then we'll be looking, well, still next door, with plenty of candidates. What the fuck did I want to say here? :hmm:
That land mass makes Alabama look good.
In other news, the first rain band of this system is about to hit us in B'ham, same band of rain over AmScip right now.
Making all that nice mud and I don't have time to go mudding. :(

18 miles of levees topped.
Good work Browny.
How you doing down there so far, Alex?
Looks like he's about in the worst of it. He's likely offline.
He was able to post articles about Prince Harry on facebook.
Clearly he is beyond mortal aid then.
Man, that hurricane may only be a Cat 1, but it's stalled out. It's just fucking sitting there at less than 8 mph, on top of New Orleans, leaning on it like a motherfucker.
My wife's church wasn't planning on sending a supply truck to a Cat 1 storm site but the way it looks now, they will. The BaptistPhone(tm) may start ringing soon.
Tommy was watching the news with me yesterday and he got worried that the flooding might reach here. Since I was in Baton Rouge a few weeks ago, he thinks Louisiana is close to Ohio

Kids are cute like that.
Now I am unfolding the map. My finger is 100 miles on the scale and the fires are 12 finger lengths away.....
Kids: WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE

Is it raining dogs and cats then? Hope there is no flooding for you.
Once every 7 years? We get several typhoons every year. No wonder you guys don't build houses that can withstand them.
 Once every 7 years what? Hurricanes hitting the US or New Orleans specifically?
It just happens to be the 7 year anniversary of Katrina, Mono. It ain't locusts.

New Orleans. I know the US gets lots of typhoons every year, but it seems that the odds of hitting an individual city isn't that high. As I said HK gets several hits every year.

Eh...it isn't particularly rare for hurricanes and tropical storms to pass through there, it just depends on how much they curve to the right after hitting Florida, obviously. Katrina and now Isaac just really face fucked them. Isaac still seems to just be sitting there. Kind of interesting. Dumping a bunch of rain, but the wind is slowing down, etc, and it's "only" a tropical storm now.
They got pretty lucky that Rita "missed" in 05, about two weeks after Katrina. That one landed on the Texas-Louisiana border and really wrecked stuff there.
E: I wish they'd show the replay of the dumb Weather Channel reporter trying to twist the stop sign pole. She pointed out that "OMG THE SIGN IS TURNED THE WRONG WAY! WIND STRONG!" (I muted it then), then started trying to twist the pole to turn it back the way it was supposed to be. The pole that is embedded in the sidewalk.

New Orleans gets hit often, but getting hit directly is somewhat rarer. The city is also very susceptible to floods.

Direct hits by the eye, or just brushed by the outer bands? There's a big difference.
Is this hurricane/tropical storm anything special or is it that modern media coverage has reached saturation point and blows events like this out of all proportion ?

Well, it's not a strong hurricane, but the fact that it's completely stalled over the Louisiana coast means it's still dumping a shitload of water on New Orleans, long after it should've moved on.
It's doing more damage than anticipated.

QuoteHurricane Isaac Response: ASPCA on the Ground
As you know, exactly seven years after Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Isaac is devastating Gulf Coast communities. Waist-high flooding has forced thousands to evacuate their homes, and as first responders work to rescue people stranded by the storm, the ASPCA is planning rescue operations for stranded and imperiled animals.
The ASPCA's response to this crisis is only just beginning and is evolving by the minute, but we have taken the following measures:
Our top experts are working closely with the Louisiana State Animal Response Team to plan and execute rescue.
We're deploying responders to conduct door-to-door rescue of animals in flooded or abandoned homes.
We're assisting a Louisiana animal shelter facing flooding.
We are supplying boats and other equipment for critical water rescue missions.
We transported animals from a Mississippi shelter to make room for possible Isaac victims.

The HSUS Uses Social Networks to Update Pet Owners; Also Aiding Stranded Horses in Mississippi
The Humane Society of the United States has deployed to Jefferson Parish, La., in response to a request for assistance from the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter. The HSUS is prepared to help with animal rescue, handling, sheltering and transportation needs during flooding caused by Hurricane Isaac. The HSUS is also coordinating the rescue of stranded horses in Magnolia, Miss.
"The Humane Society of the United States is coming to the aid of these animals, with equipment and trained personnel," said Niki Dawson, HSUS director of disaster response. "The scenes of the devastation created by the storm surge and heavy rains are heartbreaking, and we're pleased to help this community in its time of need."
The HSUS has been updating pet owners in the region via Twitter, using the handle @HumaneSociety, and Facebook with resources on pet friendly evacuation shelters and other information.
A team of HSUS responders left from Nashville, where they had been staged in anticipation of possible deployment.

Last time through Rev. Farrikan was saying that the gov't was deliberately breaking levee's to flood out black people. Is this: more of the same?
