Jerry Nelson, voice of the Count from "Sesame Street," has died at 78, says CBC News.
The Count wielded a vaguely Eastern European/Draculan accent, effortlessly imparting to children the joy of numbers, punctuated by his unforgettable "ah-ha-haaaaa."
Nelson, who hailed from Tulsa, Okla. and was raised in Washington, D.C., both operated the puppet and gave voice to the character formally known as Count von Count.
He was also the human behind Gobo from the 1980s children's series "Fraggle Rock." His characters on "The Muppet Show" included Dr. Julius Strangepork from "Pigs in Space," Robin, Kermit the Frog's nephew, and Camilla the chicken, Gonzo's girlfriend.
In 2004 Nelson stopped doing puppetry but continued voicing the Count. Back in 1965, the puppeteer also collaborated with Muppets creator Jim Henson during his tenure on "The Jimmy Dean Show."
The Jim Henson Company posted up a statement on its Facebook page from CEO Lisa Henson (daughter of Jim).
"Jerry Nelson imbued all his characters with the same gentle, sweet whimsy and kindness that were a part of his own personality," she said. "He joined The Jim Henson Company in the earliest years, and his unique contributions to the worlds of Fraggles, Muppets, Sesame Street and so many others are, and will continue to be, unforgettable."

That song makes more sense with the bleeps than without.
