The EPP-ED has national members like ÖVP (Austria), CDU (Germany), Moderates (Sweden), PP (Spain), UMP (France), PO and PSL (Poland), Forza Italia, etc. The British Tories decided to quit the group in 2006.
The PSE has national members like Labour (UK), PS (France), SPÖ (Austria), PvdA (Netherlands), SPD (Germany), SD (Sweden) etc.
The ALDE has national members like Venstre (Denmark), FDP (Germany), D66 and VVD (Netherlands), LibDems (UK) etc.
The UEN has national members like Danish People's Party, PiS and 3 more Polish parties, Lega Nord (Italy) etc.
The Greens have various national Green parties as members and additionally have SNP and Plaid Cymru from Scotland and Wales as members.
The European United Left–Nordic Green Left is mostly Communist Parties from the various member states.
The Independence/Democracy group is nowadays mostly UKIP.
I'll vote on the commies.
I'm not sure on wish of the parties: Portuguese Communist Party or Left Bloc, but both belong to that European faction.
I probally won't vote.
I can't vote (NOT FAIR  ) but I'd vote EPP-ED despite how funny the acronyms sound.
I'm voting for European Socialists. They have a guy I've always liked running from the first position on their list in Warsaw (and who is cute, too). :P
Which party will protect Europe from the Turkish menace?

All of them. :D
A four way tie so far...you have to love parliamentary elections.
Anyway I cannot vote but if I did I would vote for those Liberal people.

Yeah, probably. But you have a safer bet if you choose the nationalists or the anti-EU.
That's a non-issue over here though. I believe we are somewhat sympathetic to the Turkish entrance in the EU.

Well, it's the same with Israel as with Turkey.
With Turkey: the right hates it because they are muslim. The left hates it because they are conservative and steal jobs.
With Israel: the right hates it because it is full of Jews. The left hates it because they are imperialistic lackeys of Yanqui pig dogs.
:P

Some of us don't have that option, even if they wanted it.

Well yeah, but still the Parliament does not decide on EU enlargements - the individual countries do. So as long as the French are against it, Turks won't enter no matter who wins in the Parliament. :P

I would have thought the Anti EU parties would want the Turk in; it would solve the issue in their favor much more quickly. That's very short sighted on their part.

These guys are funny. Last time they tried to organize something together (Italian fascists, Belgian nationalists, Hungarian neo-nazis and British goons), they couldn't agree on where to hold their first convention, because each nation thought it should be in their country. :D

Only in the EU would there be an international alliance of nationalist parties.
I thought it was on Italian-Romanian tensions on Tamas favorite subject.
Parliament has little to say on EU enlargement policy which AFAIK is a Commission and Council responsibility.

What exactly does parliament have a say on anyway?
That's a good, although difficult question.
The EU "decision-making" is rather complex, but the powers of the parliament have been constantly extended in the last decades. The new Lisbon treaty (if approved) will bring more changes on those.
Nowadays, they have to accept when a new European Commission takes power and they can dismiss them with a 2/3 majority, for example.
Let me point you the EU basic page on that issue, since they can explain it better than me: http://languish.org/forums/index.php?action=post;topic=818.15;num_replies=19 (http://languish.org/forums/index.php?action=post;topic=818.15;num_replies=19)
Or you could wait for some other posters to add some information. :)
Americans should be able to vote in your elections.
Sure, just make sure you pick the right hole.
Where is the Royalist Party option!
I don't bother anymore with national or local elections; much less with EU ones.
I'd vote Socialist, were I a European. :bowler:
Hey FB, I had an Asian friend who was just out visiting some people in Arkansas. She said that she'd never been so happy to be back in the bay area.

Oh, Fayetteville isn't too bad. There's pretty scenery there, anyway. Hot Springs fucking sucks though, unless you're into white trash and horse racing.

I used to follow German politics and topics for a couple years. At some point I noticed that everything is running in circles, and everyone keeps talking about the same problems and not finding solutions. Instead they played party politics games. At some point I just shut down and stopped caring. I was tired of watching party politics games and politicians caring only about their image and next elections.
The two big parties in Germany have moved so close to one another in trying to win the "New Center" that they're distinguishable only in details and rhetoric (which is often lip service). The Greens? A pie in the sky party of delusionals. The Libertarians? Privatization of everything and deregulated market is NOT the solution. Left Party? Hells, no. Right wingers? No way. Friends and school mates who engaged themselves in local politics almost all quit because they decided it wasn't not worth it. They realized you can't move or change anything unless you have the cash or can market yourself/shout the loudest. Many of the successful local politicians are "Little Napoleons".
So I decide to vote by not voting. If voter turnout is low enough maybe it gets some people thinking (not that I hope for it).
Green. Mostly because all other parties have excluded themselves by supporting things like cutting down civil liberties.
These new polls look terrrible :(
I will in all probability vote liberal.
I'll probably vote for a party who is a member of the Party of European Socialists.
PSOE - Party of European Socialists.
The Liberals

It will make politicians think "Hey, we can do whatever we want with those sheepish people who are so lethargic that they don't even vote".
Schweigen ist Zustimmung.
Syt: by your logic you'd have to make your vote invalid at least. That's a percentage people can see.
Actually, I may vote for the second party that also belongs to the socialists, which has a GLBT activist running. I may end up voting for him.
I don't know.
Almost everyone is neutral to me, or I hate them (ideological and/or personal level)
Either the liberals or the conservatives...depends on the persons running.

I decided to vote for people, rather than for parties or "tactically", since these are probably the only elections where you can afford that and the election process does not favour big national parties.
CDU
I'll probably vote for the Liberals in the guise of either Venstre or Radikale Venstre.
As a special bonus, we Danes will also get to vote on the Royal inheritance law, a change that probably won't have any impact for at least 60 years (as no woman is anywhere near being the prime heir).
