If they include illegals that might explain part of the Southwest.

No good theory for chicks in the East.

All freshly transplanted from college for jobs, the entire corridor from Richmond to Boston is Transplant Central;  you used to live in DC, how many chicks did you know in the work environment that were actually from there?

But that sort of begs the question.  Why are chicks moving there disproportionately to men?

So DG is getting a lot and Garbon used to until he moved East ?

More crappy HR jobs?

They want the Sex and the City life?

I understand San Antonio and Anchorage being more male, but DC is a mystery.

Probably to dominate the men in their lives.

I dunno, maybe the heavier gender-specific industries that are popular with women might have something to do with it:  nursing/healthcare, accounting, government, higher education, entertainment/hospitality industries, maybe?  That's just a guess for the fences.

Didn't Lettow intentionality leave the 'Red' South in order to go on a 'quest' to that rather 'Blue' area ?

Has to be something like that, yes.

Los Angeles isn't exactly heavy with male-dominated industries like oil drilling and stuff though. Why is it more male there? All the chicks went to Atlanta?

The manufacturing belts, Cleveland-Detroit-Chicago are full of women too.

The little red bubble that is Dayton is mostly Health Care and colleges (UD! Wright State! Sinclair! Nursing students out the wazoo!). Seedy is a good guesser.

Alternatively doesn't the larger numbers of men in the US military in part account for the lack of single men in some of the blue locals ?

At anyone time, a fair few 100,000 youngish American men are deployed abroad ?

I would think a graph like this would rely on permanent addresses;  Khandahar or the USS Abraham Lincoln is merely a temporary one.

Thanks, but it's only probably a moderate effect; apparently there are currently around 195,000 deployed abroad.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_military_deployments#cite_note-siadapp.dmdc.osd.mil-0 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_military_deployments#cite_note-siadapp.dmdc.osd.mil-0)

Though I'd guess there's more, if you count some part of the sailors and marines 'deployed' on ship etc.

Oh and the figures don't include military or civilian contractors, so that's a fair few more.

Come to HK.  The male:female ratio is like 8.5/10 here.  A lot of single men have left to find jobs on the mainland.

San Antonio has a middle sized red dot, interestingly enough.  North of that goes Austin, probably Killeen (it's off 35 like Killeen is heh), Waco, then DFW.  The red one on the border to the SW of SA would be Laredo.  Corpus is the blue one to the SE.

I can't figure out what the little dots are next to the big DFW one.  Texarkana would be one, I guess, even though neither are on the border with AR.  Longview, maybe?

Those dots need to be  broken down by age and girth to be somewhat useful.

You know what?  HK girls love Americans.  A lot of them would love to live in the US.  Big houses, fresh air, blue sky. The median salary here is just US$1,200 per month.  They'll earn a lot more in the US.

And the girls are getting desperate.  We just had a reality TV show that tracked a couple of young, decent looking office workers who couldn't get boyfriends.

Depends on age and wealth, when I was growing up college girls in the South were almost universally hot. But they eat just like other Southerners so by the time they're 35 it's a whole different ball game.

Looks like the govt should put in some incentives and taxes to cause/force men and women to move to where there are shortages.    ;)    The gender tax! Depending on the overage of a gender in an area, the tax goes up accordingly.   :menace:

I should keep quiet, so the govt doesn't get any ideas.

Without migration, the country should have more single women because men tend to die earlier.

Another factor that has been mentioned is that immigrants tend to be male, so areas with a lot of immigration will skew male.

Also, I think most college grads are now women. College grads are probably most likely to move to cities after graduation. That effect would make larger cities red, but the effect on individual small towns may not be enough to register on the map even though in aggregate they offset.

:P It's a factor, not the only factor.

Maybe men are more willing to commute across the border? Women with children have an extra incentive to prefer the US side of the border due to better education opportunities and benefits?

Under age 30, American women out-earn men in metropolitan areas. Young educated women have plenty of opportunity to fuck, but then have an increasingly hard time finding a complementary husband. Smart money-making men just play the favorable numbers, especially black males.

Then the high earner educated single women should net out the low earner educated single men.
