Title: Shaving?
Post by: Lucidor on May 21, 2012, 03:35:42 PM
Did we have this thread before?

About 2 years ago, I got my first safety razor, and haven't looked back. I tried a Shavette, but it felt too unsafe and made me look like I fought with a cat. I can't stand paying Gillette prizes for a four-blade razor that is good for three shaves, and sometimes needs minutes to clean out all lodged hairs from it.

I said electric razor although I use a combo of that and disposables. I had the Mach 3 and hated it.

Mach 3 Turbo, alternate with electric razor. A Mach 3 blade lasts much more than three shaves.

Never tried a safety razor.

And don't you dare shaving that moustache of yours!

Tel started similar polls about shaving twice(what happened to him? Languish is dying :() but can't remember if it was about the razors or frequency.

Electric trimmer then electric shaver.  Doesn't get close enough, though, so every so often I'll clean it up afterward with a double-bladed safety razor.

I don't do 3 or more blades because they don't get close enough.

Ditto.

Use the sensitive skin gel as soon as I'm out of the shower, or a hot compress for a few minutes to loosen up.

Exactly same here.

I have a really tough beard and eventually found a fixed head twin blade disposable that's sharp enough to cut it with some consistency iirc called something like blue two, probably gillette, well I know what the packet looks like so just pick it off the shelf.

Electric shaver. Been using those for many years. Much easier and faster for me than with a blade, though I keep razors just in case, or when I feel like shaving with a razor.

Electric razor. Braun series 7. works pretty good. got it mainly to shave my head as i was going through 1 blade every time, but it shaves my face well too.

I just cut off my beard.  I had like eight months of growth there.  I use a Mach 3, and an electric clipper when I feel like it.  It's funny how shaving doesn't become a priority if you don't go outside.

Combo Mach 5 super dooper turbo or something and a electric trimmer.

Stupid thing crap out on me today and messed up my beard. I had to shave it entirely.

:ultra:

Electric. You have to use them for a while before it stops irritating the skin. I like not having to keep buying shit to shave. Also it's much faster.

Use both a Norelco electric razor and.....some version of the Schick Quattro.  The electric razor "burns" my face more (actually, it hurts the most down on my neck), but I have some lotion for that so it's no big deal.

I use the electric hair cutter (0 mm) on my whole head twice a week (except chin, I keep it ca. inch long there). My skin is eternally grateful for not being massacred by sharp blades anymore.

I have this one too, but I end up with feeling like someone rubbed my face with a scrap paper every time I use it. Plus it takes bloody ages compared to Mach 3 Turbo razor. Still I keep it for quick trips when travelling with my hand luggage only - since they don't let you take razors with you on the plane.

Multi-blade razor. Not a mach three I think, some lesser sort, mach 3 is damn expensive and the blades dont last long...though it does do a good job.
I have an electric one but it is slow and inefficient, always have to use a regular razor for some bits. Often use it for a quick trim though.
Really want to try a straight razor but have no idea where to find them.

I used to hate electric razors but my mom bought me this one for a Christmas present like 3 or 4 years ago.  I was skeptical at first, but I absolutely love it and never shave with a conventional razor anymore.  Plus, like you said, it's perfect for business trips since it has that little travel pod thingy.

Once you hit 40, you worry about pulling a hammy stepping out of the shower. Just wait, you're almost there.

I used an electric shaver for several years but to be honest it was just because it was easier and faster.  To be honest it did not give that close a shave.

I was using a Fusion whatever.  But fuck are those blade expensive.  So expensive in fact they are kept locked up at the grocery and drug store - the dollar / weight value was so high they became a prime bait for shoplifters.  And I find it a pain in the ass to chase someone down just so I can buy razors.

So now I just go with disposables.  Not as good as Fusion, better than electric.

It's by far the fastest way to go, but I'll freely admit that I can only get away with it due to really tough skin.

Also, the "hip and cool" thing is the old-timey straight-blade razors.  Even I'm afraid to use those.

I agree with this but it's less of a problem in my case since I have facial hair (moustache and goatee) anyway.

I have sensitive skin, but a good sharp blade and a light touch just gets rid of the beard, and leaves the skin much less irritated than for instance electric razors. Dabbing some Proraso preshave on helps a lot too.

The idea of getting this has been tossed back and forth among my friends, in jest mostly.

Shaving, while looking like Hannibal Lecter is a neat idea, though.
