France's population is set to exceed Germany's in 2050. :frog:

Why is France's population increasing like that? And why is it assumed that Germany's population will go into major decline? You guys aren't planning a new world war are you? We don't want to have go over there again.
So's the UK's. ENTENTE CORDIALE! :w00t: :bowler: :frog:
QuoteWhy is France's population increasing like that?
Decent birthrate, some immigration.
QuoteAnd why is it assumed that Germany's population will go into major decline?
Low birthrate, less immigration.
Are Algerians and Turks being counted as well?
Okay. I was just curious. Good for France. :)

 Isn't Yemen literally running out of water with its current population.

That can't be right. Yemen has two dinky cities. Maybe you mean Pakistan?

but bad for europe.
Pakistan already has more people than Russia.
OK, but Yemen had a population of 24 million in 2010. Unless Putin managed to kill 120 million journalists while I wasn't watching there's no way Yemen's going to pass them.
Yemen has a population growth-rate of 3.1% per annum, so an extrapolation gives them 80m in 2050.

Not happening unless they're given a fuckton of desalinization plants and the infrastructure to transport that water across the country. They'll be hard pressed to support the population they have.
Or maybe Yemenis will be genetically engineered to require less water. :hmm:

I think that was Viking's point. Simple extrapolations of population growth are not that great when used for lengthy periods of time.
I do believe our Norwegian friend was making a quip about how unreliable demographic projections are.
As for the subject of this thread, France is today at 65m and Germany at 81m, with opposite trends. Given those conditions, the gap could close by 2050, easily.
I completely missed the part about 2050. My bad Puff. :face:
yes, I was referring to the fact that yemen is in the middle of a birth bulge while Russia is quickly killing off all it's men above 50 with unhealthy additives to home made spirits. This causes both countries to have screwed population growth rates with the russian population falling while the yemeni one grows.

just desalinate them

Burn in hell, overpopulators.
Only an idiot would make predictions 40 years into future based on today's trends alone. Since most journalists are idiots, I am not surprised this got traction.
I will arrive there soon to plow the French fertile fields.
After eight years of decline, Germany's population rose 2011 due to higher immigration from Eastern Europe.

Russia's also got a low birthrate :(
