So I just got a spinning rod today, and previously had a spincaster that annoyed the shit out of me. I'm curious what other people use.

Spinning is much easier on newbies.
Spincasting isn't so easy & you have to remember waht to do.
I prefer Spincasting, always felt more natural & more fun, less automatic.
I've always only used spincasting so can't comment on the others.

You sure you don't have these backwards?
Maybe.
Isn't spinning, the press the button one?
Fly rod as it takes the most skill and is the most natural.

No, that's the spincast. Spinning is the opened face one.

Should also add... if you're on a lake then spin rod makes the most sense but if you're on a river or creek, fly rod all the way.
I just got a spinning reel. I kind alike it, though it took some practice, having grown with a spincaster. The spincaster tended to jam up, while the spinning hasn't yet.
Out here we just use dynamite

I think last time I went fishing, I used a bamboo pole with no reel at all.
Is it called fishing when you order it off of a menu?
There is always just a dropline.

I always fish on a lake (except sometimes I fish at the spillway; it's an Army Corps of Engineers lake).

I just finished setting up the reel, threading it onto the line, and tying tackle onto it. Then I proceeded to cast it off my deck to get a feel for it. I caught a dandelion.
The only issue I've encountered is that the line seems to not always backfeed onto the reel without getting itself looped around the bail and shit.

Noodling is one of those things that seems OSSUM but in truth is kinda a bunch of bullshit. Not only is it potentially very dangerous, but the catfish is usually seriously injured in the process and won't be able to be released. Since catfish meat tastes like shit once catfish get large enough to catch that way, there's no use for the fish whatsoever. It'd be better to not do it and let them spawn. <_<
