Since it seems like Paradox finally made a game that isn't total shit on release, I'd like to make the proposition that we begin planning a largish MP game. What I think could be fun is if everyone plays dukes in a single realm, either the HRE, France, or maybe Byzantium.
My vote is for France, because..
King of France
Duke of Aquitaine
Duke of Anjou
Duke of Normandy
Duke of Brittany
Duke of Champagne
Duke of Burgundy
Duke of Flanders
Duke of Languedoc
Gives us 9 slots, which I think we could fill up. If we have more (and MP ends up being stable enough) we could either expand to duchies immediately outside of France or do the HRE, which I bet would be abso-fucking-lutely hilarious if a ton of people were playing it.
Any interest?
Edit: Okay, let's get a potential roster, then we'll decide a day and time. Pick your duchy too, niggers.
In:
Fireblade - Champagne
Jaron - Anjou
Tamas
Martinus - Burgundy
Maybe:

King of France counts as a duke?
:D. Really? You really think this is gonna be mp-worthy before next year? Let's file this right next to the Vicky 2 mp thread.
No idea if it's going to be MP worthy or not... but depending on the day and time i'm interested.

It's the French King of the Mountain: who's gonna be King of France at the end of the game.
An AI King of France is the best way to ensure France will be gimped before Philippe I dies.

Someone has to lead the fail train, right?
There'd have to be some house rules on whoever plays the Capets, like no raising a player's levies. But the King trying to bribe everyone into letting him have minimal crown authority or slightly raise taxes would be fun. :)
sbr: Well, we'd have to see how it plays on release. :p
I actually hope I am wrong and may be interested in playing if I am.
I'm in. Let's do Sundays. ;)

Exactly. I just played a game as Aquitaine, and the AI King of France kept getting into stupid ass wars for Sardinia, raising everyone's levies, and then WPing a few years later. And we all know a certain asshole with a Burgundy fetish (Martinus) would assassinate the AI Capets right off the bat so he could steal the crown anyway.
I mean, at game start, the Capets only have Paris and Orleans, making them weaker than any of his dukes. If we have to cut something, I'd pick Normandy.
I was actually thinking that with this crowd, playing the King of France seems suicidal. :D

Well, we'd all have to agree to not fuck over the King right off the bat. :P
I'd like to play Champagne, but I'd bite the bullet and play the Capets if nobody else wants too.

Just in this one, special case regarding the Capets. ;)
You know, though, we could also do the Holy Roman Empire. The election mechanism is meant to be abused, right?
If we do France though, I propose we let Marty play the Capets.

Indeed, you wonder why the different barons even gave a fuck about the King of Paris and Ile-de-France. Yet they did, if only a bit.
A Languish France vassal game would be like Kingmaker, but with three VERY overpowered vassals (Aquitaine, Toulouse, Normandy).
After thought, playing the Scandinavians or Italians would turn in cutthroat mayhem very fast, so these are ideal settings for a Languish game.
Yeah, MP Italy games in CK1 were awesome, but are there really enough things in Italy to play? You have Tuscany, Milan, Savoy, Apulia, and.. that's pretty much it. Same with Scandinavia (Denmark, Sweden, and Norway).
I did have that thought when I tried out Champagne a few minutes ago. Toulouse isn't really that powerful, but Aquitaine is literally half of France. If we do a France game, we'll need to have the least (or most?) assholish player for it. But seeing as this is Languish, I'm not sure there's someone here who isn't a douchebag in MP games. :hmm:
Maybe we should consider a big HRE game instead?
Yeah the HRE or even the Teens with the Pechengs and Turks threatening if too much civil war occurs could be interesting.

Yeah, the Seljuks, Cumans, and Fatimids would probably be a pretty good incentive not to turn it into an assassination-infested thunderdome.
But then again, it's not like the Byzantine Empire in real life wasn't filled with some minor general jerking off in his tent one day while daydreaming about overthrowing the Emperor and blinding everyone. :)
I think Byzantium would fit the gathering assclown-crowd here (FB, Jaron, Martinus, I am looking at you) better, altough wouldn't AI vassals would be a major thing there even if get 5-6 players? When I inherited the throne with the byzantine character I had warnings about like 20 vassals with sinking loyalties.
Otherwise I would lean toward HRE. In France, I would just marry the Emperor's daughter and have him rape all of you fuckers in my war for the crown.

LOL Fuck You.
I'm in if the game time is even remotely suitable for Euros.
I'd also suggest HRE. There's plenty of duchies or potential duchies (can include Bohemia and northern Italy in the mix), elective succession means everyone gets a shot at the Emperor's crown, and if someone tries to change it to family succession, the rest can rebel, leading to more action.
Sunday, 12pm eastern? 5pm in English time. Go for 3-5 hours.
What does this game play like? I have played EU3 is it similar enough for me to jump into?

You would probably need to read up on title claims and breeding heirs first.

Languish has been improving in both, actually.

Download the demo. :P
It uses the same engine and I guess a few of the same concepts as EU3, but you've got to go through the tutorial and play a couple of games to get the hang of it.
I'm calling Burgundy.

Haha ok thank you!
I wanna switch to Toulouse.
is this thing even going to be MP ready out of the box? Haven't played a new Paradox game in a while, but i don't recall them being MP stable until a patch or two.
Paradox games of late have been MP capable out of a box. The old Paradox games used to CTD like crazy, but now its more a question of balance. Vic 2 we never played because the game disintegrated but we could have. :)
You guys should play Byzantium with Jaron as Emperor.
I'd go for his throat in an instant. :menace:
:o
