I got some bare walls in my living room that need decorating. I got one fairly big wall and one somewhat smaller. Problem is what the fuck should I put there? My preference of course is original art, but finding original art that I really like and that is for sale and reasonably priced is not that straightforward. I am not a wealthy man, for the right original art I could maybe spend $5,000 max.
Apart from original art I am also interested in putting up other stuff if I like it enough and/or it has enough meaning to me (and buying the original is not realistic). For instance I am looking at a Machiavelli print ( http://www.icanvasart.com/niccolo-machiavelli-portrait-canvas-print.html ). Now I'd love to also have one of Swedish 18th century awesome dude Anders Chydenius but he's not standard.
You might ask "what the fuck do you like then, fag?". I posted a thread on Old Languish about art I liked, artists mentioned in the thread included Otto Dix, John Bauer, William Blake, Nicholas Roerich, Kay Nielsen and others. I really like early 20th century shit. Obviously those exact guys are not available to me in original.
Not wall-related, but I'd also like to own an awesome bronze statuette. Or some other cool sculpted shit.
Doesn't it kinda depend on what the room is decorated like?

Possibly but that's why Brain'll choose from our suggestions (or not) :P

How'd you get them to date this from last week? I mean, if you can see the future or have access to a time machine, why would you need this commission? :hmm:

That the Brain's looking to buy some art and you conveniently have a piece with his name written on it.

Of the stuff you mentioned, I'd probably go with a Blake print.

is not one of the standard Blake works you tend to see, but I like it.

I've always liked Mucha, and I agree with you that early-20th century art is wonderful.

You know, that's a surprisingly popular niche; was watching Antique Roadshow a while back, and they had somebody bring one in from the 1920/30's; all sorts of nifty tribe-specific stuff involved in the production of those things.

Unfortunately, probably the best way to get one would require travelling to New Mexico/Arizona. I picked mine up while passing through Gallup, NM. It's not 1930's old, but I love the design. Not cheap either...for a good sized one, about 5' x 3', is easily $2,000 and up.

See, a room should reflect its owner. I would have recommended velvet Elvises (Elvisii?) for Cal (and/or a painting of dogs playing poker), but it would work OK for you as well.
For the Brain, maybe something by or inspired by Hieronymus Bosch.

The old stencils are kaputt. Had them stored rolled up at work which makes it pretty tough to get decent results. I'd have to cut them from scratch.
