Post by: Admiral Yi on January 15, 2012, 11:49:52 PM
Everyone getting emelkay off?

What a perfectly timed holiday.  Though not one of the better drinking holidays.

I went to sleep at 11:45 and woke up at 2 a.m.  WTF is this shit?  I only got four hours of sleep last night, then worked nine on the busiest day of our week.  It's like my body doesn't want me to do my bar application shit tomorrow.

Should I: listen to it? :P

Edit: oh wait, it's MLK day.  None of the places I'd need to go to will be open.  Might as well dick around till six in the morning.

You goddamn ahole you better not quit on some stupid-ass excuse like lack of sleep. You HAVE to become a proper lawyer. Languish lacks them.

I didn't make the decision to close courts and schools on MLK Day.  I'll do it Tuesday.  I just need: certified copies of my criminal proceedings (this is by far the biggest pain in the ass), my LS transcript, some character affidavits from people who barely know who I am and... I think that's it.  I've got my birth certificate and UG transcript, and I'm getting fingerprinted (ninety-four fucking dollars :bleeding: ) on the 25th.

Then I probably get slammed by character and fitness and forfeit my $700 filing fee and the multi-thousand dollar bar prep course I don't know how I'll pay for.  Should be great.  If I don't, I take the bar in July, by which point I may have gotten a non-attorney job that I enjoy, so it will be utterly pointless.  And even if that's not the case, I'll owe bar dues.

Oh, yeah, I've got to go view some trials and shit too.  And take the Bridge the Gap program, which I think costs money, and in any event is pointless.  Man, when you spell it all out, it seems almost as retarded as it is.

All that said, is there a good way to point out on your resume that you didn't fail the bar twice, you were just trying to pursue gigs that didn't involve bar admission?  Because I imagine some legal employers will just assume that's what happened if I'm not explicit about it.  Of course, it's difficult to say which one is dumber, so maybe silence is golden.

Theroetically I have off, yeah, but since we're in the middle of year-end close I'm probably going to spend half the day working (from home).

The kids don't have to go to school but I have to work.

Mine had to go to pre-school.  But his class was half-empty.  I'm guessing either those parents had the day off themselves & kept the kids home or assumed the school followed the state's vacation schedule.

Anywho, I have to work but MLK day is always a nice day to come in since almost all our customers are closed.  With no prospect of Norma Jean from Podunk Federal Credit Union calling & bugging me over something I trained her on 2 years ago & that she's not supposed to be calling me for anyway, I can actually get some work done.

I'm off today, but Monday is just one of my normal days off (the other is Thursday).  That's the bad thing about working in retail--except for Christmas day itself, you can expect to work most holidays.

Having Thursday as one of my normal days off comes in handy at Thanksgiving, though, and having Monday off means that I get a lot of the federal holidays off as well, though of course I don't get the 3-day weekend that federal employees get.

No, it's warming up. My problem was from the weekend when it rained on Friday morning and then dropped to -16 on Saturday...so all the rain turned to ice.
