My beloved Cesaria Evora is dead!
She who was known as the 'barefoot diva' ( http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118047669.html?cmpid=RSS|News|LatestNews (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118047669.html?cmpid=RSS%7CNews%7CLatestNews) ).
"Evora, known to her close friends as Cize (pronounced see-ZEH), was the best-known performer of "morna," Cape Verde's national music. It is a complex, soulful sound, mixing an array of influences arising from the African and seafaring traditions of the 10 volcanic islands."
I *love* that sound - the mourning and nostalgia embedded in it. And she was the greatest in the genre. Here are some samples.

I am many things beside whatever else you people think I am... I saw Cesaria live in Quebec City in the mid-90s - her voice was so sultry yet so mournful...

You do realize that she wasn't white, right?

If we have that impression who is to blame but yourself?

I wasn't implying that I found it uncharacteristic.
