I decided a couple of days ago to start up HOI2 again, pick France, and conquer the fucking world, but especially the US. Just because  Also, it's awful slow at work these days, so there. Here's the AAR so far.
Setting were Normal/Furious I think, maybe Normal/Normal. Start date 1936. Three slight modifications:
1- Extended the tech tree by using the cold war mod's techs for the later dates
2- Using the graphics improvement pack, which to be honest sorta sucks
3- Made an event killing off all the Old Guard generals, admirals and airmen. Fuck Weygand and his retarded shit.
So, I fired it up and quickly dropped my land doctrine, opting for the Blitzkrieg path. Tech teams are fucking terrible. I'm using lots and lots of money to inch up my intel network and to steal blueprints from the Hun. I moved all my army to the motherland, went one step towards Hawk lobby, and voted to keep the same government in june 1936 (I forgot to take pics until the Spanish civil war started, so...)
In july 1936, the poor spaniards got raped by poor redistribution in their civil war event:
Of course, I choose to help the pinkos, even though the fucking Russians don't. Great. Germany and Italy back Franco, the brits chose to sit on their hands. I fear RepSpain is in for a trashing. I start chain producing factories to bring my IC up even though it's still crippled by the peace time -%. I'm also trading everything and anything for supplies to free up IC.

Not working for me. :(
Good luck Zoups :bowler:
But yeah, good luck. Although the thing about France that even if you defeat Germany, won't you have no cause to invade the USSR?
...but I love the French. :( :frog:
Hmmm, Imageshack sorta blows. I'll use one pic per post I guess. There's not much else to say about 1936. I'm on extremely fast, just watching the civil war to my south. My general plan is to build up IC til 1938, then switch to unit production in the 18 months leading up to the war. I'm only going for a group of four interceptors shadowing 4 tac bombers with escort fighters attached. Hopefully 4 or 5 HQ units (I started with 2), a crapload of infantry and maybe a few heavy tanks if IC/time permits.
I also disbanded a bunch of brigades, keeping only the armored cars that I attached to my 4 cavalry divisions. All the artillery is gone (), but I'm going for speed in 1939. Hopefully I can race through Bavaria and Slovakia to rescue the Poles.
I'm not touching the Navy until 1941 at least, when Japan starts making noise. I'm not even concerned about Italy since I plan to annex the Reich before the Axis ever expands. :frog: I disbanded a few older subs and destroyers that were killing my oil supplies.
I'm not playing with full IC takeover since that's sort of cheating I find, so my plan is to puppet everything worthwhile, since they would make better use of their IC. I did choose tech team takeover, since that seems more plausible and it actually happened during the war. Man I suck at this aar stuff. Should have said all that in the first post. Oh well.
The Russians will get it Ide, worry not. I've never broken up the USSR in HoI2, sounds like fun.
I love you too Money, but I'm still gonna nuke the eastern seaboard.
November 1936, and a rogue politician starts screaming. I ignore him, since democracy is overrated and I'll be declaring lots of wars. Dissent is no fun for the warmonger.
The civil war is still raging in november despite the fascists massive initial advantage and outside help. I gave the Republicans a few units and subs, but I fear what they really lack is manpower and air cover :(
Still, they manage to retake Madrid and pocket and few provinces.
I decide to celebrate the Republican spirit by sending them more stuff, supplies and oil and money.
Quick look at the Orient, where events are unfolding normally. Nationalist China and the Clique went to war, China kicked their asses around a bit, then they settled for peace.
December 1936, and my law policy is attacked by the opposition. I chose to side with the Conservatives while holding my breath. The Hawk boost is nice, and by moving once step to the right I can boost Free Market early next year. That decreases upgrade costs which is nice since my army is all 1918 crap.
:showoff:
I don't hate the French. Or the Quebecis. I dislike the British much more. Greasy teabagers.
January 1937. I move one step towards Free Market. Still paying down the dissent. Haven't made any significant minister changes either, just basically going for the +IC guys and the ones with infantry construction bonus. My IC is up from 87 to 93, which is barely noticeable because of the peacetime penalty. :glare:
May 1937. Despite my best efforts and a bout of final heroics from the Republicans, the fascists annex the true Spanish nation.
But their time will come. :menace:
June 1937, and ww2 kicks off. Marco Polo starts the Jap-Chinese war, and the KMT go with forging the unified front. All the warlords join in, commies included. I'm hoping they slow down the Japs til Pearl Harbour. China is a pain to go through in Hoi2 iirc. All these freaking mountains. Notice my impressive treasury. I've been selling blueprints to the Allies while they usually just give them away to me. Suckers.
June 1937. Another rogue politician appears. Great! Right?
Wrong. Turns out by going too much authoritarian, my government switches from Market Liberal to Social Conservative. I need to reappoint ministers, causing dissent. Most annoying though, is that now I cannot go full Free Market next year. Doh. Upgrades are gonna suffer.
October 1937. The Japs rearrange Inner Mongolia by setting up Mengkukuo or whatever it's called. It took them 5 months to do this, and minimal progress. I don't recall how fast the Japs usually beat China, but I take this as a good sign. Hopefully the mountainous terrain in the center of the country will slow their pace to a crawl. Since all my army and crap Navy is in France proper, I'll need to wrap up the germans before 1941. Doable? We shall see.
Vive la France! :frog:
Use Facebook for img hosting.
Photobucket's better.
The thread title is misleading, I am: Disappointed.
January 1938. I'm going full hawk. Most of my factories will be finished around may. Behind schedule for starting infantry production, but I'll need the extra time to research infantry '39. The Brits are almost done researching it, so that'll speed things up once I trade them for the blueprint.
March 1938. Events unfolding historically as Hitler marches into Austria unopposed. We evacuate our embassy, burn our papers and ratchet up our factories input  Background shot of the war in China. Japan is creeping southwards. They also landed about 30 divisions in Shanghai <_< PROTECT YOUR BEACHES KMT. Dammit.
October 1938. Hitler demands the Sudetes and gets them. Poor Czechs. I almost wished they went for a fight. With their forts all around and a considerable army for their size, they could have kept the Boches busy for a while. My army is nowhere near ready though. Notice my IC finally in the green, thanks to techs and ministers :showoff:
November 1938. I'm gaming the system. By guaranteing the independence of half of Europe, a get a free move to interventionism if anyone declares war on them. I'm almost all the way to the left anyways, but if Italy goes for Albania, I'll be full interventionism. That's important for later, because as a democracy, I need my target country to have some belligerence if I am to declare war.
Are you really going to invade the US?
That's the plan. I don't how or when yet. I'm not sure if i can land troops from the Azores. I might have to build up Cayenne as a port and hit Florida first, or I could wait til nuclear weapons and take out NY or Washington. It'll depend on the state of my European Empire. :frog:
January 1939- Moving to Standing Army, which boosts manpower, org and upgrade time slightly. I'm a bit worried that by focusing all my energies on industrial, infantry and land doctrines to defeat Germany, I'll be way behind on secret weapons, nuclear and jet technology, not to mention Naval and Aircraft research. I decide to set aside 2 tech slots, one for naval doctrine research and one for aircraft design and doctrines. I'm following the British naval tech tree focusing on Battleships. Seems to me the Jap/US route is more powerful, but it focuses on aircraft carriers. My naval tech teams are awful to begin with and barely able to research the Brit tree, so too bad. Anyways, I prefer to sink ships rather than make them retreat. :bowler:
:D Interesting cabinet!
Hey I work with what's given to me :P
March 1939. The Protectorate is declared in former Czech lands, while the Nazis install a puppet regime in Slovakia under a fascist priest. The French public is even more convinced of the dangers of religion in the public sphere, crazy canadians notwithstanding. It is decided that Slovakia will be purged of its clergy upon its liberation by the Glorious Republican Army of France, Civilizing Mission Department, Central Europe Division. :frog: Mainly, I'll puppet Czechoslovakia, or should I say Tchéquoslovaquie and forget Slovakia altogether.
Hmm. Let's see:
A calm Socialist
A fervent Socialist
A dozing Centre-Right
A Crypto-Fascist
A Monarchist
An unprincipled southerner
A business right-winger
A so-so military commander
And Joseph Vuillemin, (whom I don't know...)
Late March 1939 - The hungry hungry petit caporal claims and gets Memel. Will all of Europe just bend over and take it?
The year is 50 B.C. 1939 A.D. and Gaul Europe is entirely occupied by the Romans Germans. Well not entirely! One small village nation of indomitable Gauls still holds out against the invaders. And life is not easy for the Roman legionaries bloodthirsty degenerates SS who garrison the fortified camps of Totorum, Aquarium, Laudanum and Compendium... Warsaw, Prague and Vienna...
Still March 1939 - The junior partner decides to go for the riches of Albania: vendettas and terrible cheese. You're welcome to them, fascists. Still, it bumps my interventionism to full. Thanks, Muss!
Encore March 1939 - In light of recent fascist land grabs, the Brits invite Poland to join the Allies. They accept of course. Despite their despicable choice of government, I decide to help the Poles. Blueprints, money and supplies are sent to Warsaw.
April 1939 - The Eyeties take 2 weeks to annex Albania. :glare: I seem to remember it used to take them months in previous games. Oh well. My army is churning out nicely. Puny little airforce is completed.
24th of August 1939 - fascists and crypto-fascists finally show their true colors. Poland is dismayed. London shrugs. France rounds up members of the PCF and sends them to Cayenne. All divisions are ordered to proceed to Alsace with due haste. Airforce is on alert in Metz. Crummy Navy under Darlan is sent to patrol off the German coast. The mood is gloomy, the Generals hesitant. Where is the élan?
Ugh. 408 manpower. Prepare to be bled white.
So this is HOI3?

Isn't that good?
I mean, that's 40 divisions' worth of infantry right there. I think my manpower is around +0.8 per day.
Sept 1st, 1939 - WW2 kicks off, Euro version. Time to roll the dice. As soon as daylight breaks, 48 divisions will attack the Freiburg area. 24 divisions under Field Marshal Georges (skill3, Defensive doctrine) from Strasbourg, 24 divisions under Field Marshal Garchéry (skill3, Commando doctrine) from Mulhouse. I turned on auto-promote leaders, and they decided to put a freaking commando leader as my 2nd Field Marshal. :glare: Still, can't be helped.
Oh, and this is Hoi2 Habs, with doomsday+armageddon installed and all the patches.
Sept 1 1939 - a review of Allied forces.
116 infantry, 4 cavalry, 1 light armored, 4 medium armored, 9 mountaineers and 4 HQ units. :punk: I'm gonna rock Hitler's world. Notice the Brits' terrible army state. I guess they've been building ships or something, what the hell.

I've played til january 1940, and I assure you that things are good :frog:
A few things helped. Even though I'm almost all infantry, I went with the kraut's land doctrine tree, bumping my org up and up. By the outbreak of war, I had stolen blueprints and researched all the way to Elastic Defense, which is the 1940 doctrine iirc. Also, I took a bunch of risks to envelop and destroy german divisions. With 4 HQs and attacking always from 2 or more directions, I was able to attack all through winter, even though yes, my manpower is way down. Plus I don't think puppets give manpower, so future army building will take time.
Late sept 1939 - The Poles are retreating across the board. Warsaw is still holding out, and that fight would go on for a week. Apparently 4 divisions in an urban terrain will bleed you. Good to know, but too bad for Poland :(
Oct 12th 1939 - Despite my earlier intentions of racing across southern Germany to rescue a fragment of Poland, Germany annexes them only to partition it with the USSR. I got bogged down in Austria, and the Stukas were tearing through my thinned out forces. I had to halt at Salzbourg and reorganize. Sorry Poland.
Oct 24th 1939 - I'm kicking German ass all over the place, but it's costing me mad supplies and manpower. Almost all of my armies are on offensive supply mode. All of the Rhur is French, and I managed to pocket an unknown number of German divisions in the Tyrol and Hamburg regions. My Dresden army is taking a beating but holding so far. Crossing the river into Rostock in the north was hell. I sent the Moroccan and Senegalese divisions first, wave after wave  I have to say, thank god for the Canucks running interdiction to cover my advance. My puny airforce is of no help at all, getting mauled each time they leave the airstrip. Brits are busy bombing IC all over the place, German supply problems are starting to show.
Nov 1st 1939 - Pocketing Innsbruck. Despite the frozen ground, mountainous terrain, I decide to attack as fast as I can. Out of supply armies lose org and strength the more you wait, but I decided to annex Germany before Belgium and Holland join the Allies. That way I can declare war on them. 9 nazi divisions go the way of the dinosaurs. By pocketing and destroying as many germans as I can as fast as I can, I'm also killing their best leaders. It will show in future combats, when the AI had to resort to Old Guard generals, weakly skilled ones or even towards the end, no leaders at all.
Nov 1st 1939 - Colson will move to Bremen immediately, while Garchéry is to secure Leipzig. German divisions in Erfurt, Schweinfurt and Whilelmshlafen are to be destroyed. I'm taking the risk of cutting my Northern Group off supply, but it's not that risky. Worse come to worse I can resupply by sea, and a bunch of German divisions are still making their way west from Poland.
What happened to the swastikas?

6 million of them were destroyed.

Still chugging along? Germany annexed, yet?
Has Japan been annexed yet?
Mars been annexed yet?
Chugging along. As you might expect, the game is much more advanced than the AAR. :P
Nov 3rd 1939 - Destroying 9 German divisions in Whilelmshafen. Notice Leipzig is finally mine, so those *furt divisions are next.
Nov 10th 1939 -
*furt destroyed. Have cornered 11 divisions in Kiel. The Krauts are falling like flies, retreating across the board as soon as they see the Tricolore. :frog:
General view of European theatre, 10/11/1939.
I don't think you'll make Moscow before Winter...
:(
I know. Not next winter either. :(
Finland decides to fight on november 17th.
Good luck Finns, even though you're crypto-nazis.
Nov 22nd -
Crapola. They took longer than I remember, but still. The KMT goes kaput, only the commies hold on for the moment. I'm sure it won't last, but I guess they'll bleed the japs going down fighting.
An example of fighting on frozen ground for the attacker: my 27 divisions lost that fight to 5 dug in German divisions, despite higher starting org and air cover. :bleeding:
Fighting the USSR is gonna be FUN.
dec 1st -
pocketing away! I like destroying divisions. Very satisfying :)
Dec 2nd- Germany prepares for Weserübung.
Uh oh. I gotta hurry, else freaking Denmark and Norway will join the Allies, meaning I won't be able to puppet their ass.
Paul Reynaud to the Czechs: j'arrive!
14 German divisions annihilated.
Producing more factories and some transports during the war.
transports
January 3rd 1940. With Berlin surrounded, all remaining german armies in what used to be Poland have to be resupplied via Kosice, the Slovakian capital with 0 IC.
Pic got truncated, no idea how.

assuming of course that they update their tanks with C&C radios, reorganize their tanks either into division blindé or some sort of combined arms force where the french tanks (more and better than the germans) and french airplanes (as many and as good as the germans, but for some reason not used) operate together with french infantry and artillery (fewer men, more guns), y'know, completely change your way of thinking and abandon every single principle of warfare that you know works.
