Title: Skype ethics...
Post by: Oexmelin on September 10, 2011, 10:45:22 PM
Just a quick question - I am new to skype, and therefore, don't know really what to expect.

Is it frequent to be contacted by complete strangers (as I just was...) ? Should I assume I was mistaken for someone else, is there publicity/scam/bots, etc. ?

Thanks. :)

Bots for camwhores are on all the major messaging services now.  The current gen are usually easily visible by starting off with some variation of "I just got this working, but I had to switch screen names."  I'm not a big Skype user, but on all of the other IMing platforms, if you get randomly approached by what looks like a stranger, 99 times out of 100, it's a scam of some sort or cam publicity.
