First of all, do any of you ROTWers get this? A small box of usually sample size toiletries, given free by the manufacturers in order to entice emerging brand loyalty, when you're an incoming freshman at university.
It struck me while I was shaving that I have been a life-long user of two items in the freebie box: Edge shaving gel and Speed Stick deoderant. Aqua Velva, not so much.
Fuck man, I can't remember what brands were in that stupid kit.

They didn't give me that when I was in college. I was shown the dorm washboard and given the chance to purchase a pumice stone.

Harsh toke.
Did your kit have rubbers in it? Mine did.

No rubbers. Maybe the Jesuits cleaned them out?
I didn't get that no then again I didn't move to go to College.
I get all kind of shits by the mail that are baby related now tho.
I was kind of surprised we got them in retrospect, since John Silber was such an old fashioned prude.
Don't get. You get loads of free shit in fresher's week but that's it. The only things I remember were lighters, bread and teabags
:hmm: I don't remember getting any freebie toiletries.
But I did form some crucial brand loyalties during my undergraduate education.
Noxzema shaving cream (the green one with aloe), the Gillette Sensor Excel razor (with two blades). I came to college only a little past 17, not knowing how to shave. I had been surreptitiously using my dad's electric razor up until then. Too neurotic for the classic "father teaching son to shave thing" I suppose.
Winston cigarettes. Old Grandad whiskey. Colgate toothpaste. "all" laundry detergent.
I didn't get any freebies.
I use women's shaving cream Korea left behind. Waste not, want not. It smells nice.
No beginning of year box but lots of freebies all through uni.
I recently used up a little thing of lip balm that I got at my orientation -- I kept losing it and re-discovering it under dressers, etc., which is why it took so long. There was no brand label, though. It was just blue with a picture of a bear on it. End of an era. :(
Off-campus living, probably going to continue living off-campus as a transfer student, so the question seems kinda moot for me. :P

:perv:
Anything else you use/wear that she left behind? :P
No, my university did not give out marketing materials for commercial products.

They probably needed them more than you.

It puts the shaving cream on its skin?
Somehow, I am beginning to wonder whether Korea left at all. :hmm:
I never got anything like that anywhere I've been.

That's silly. Obviously they wouldn't fit.
I no longer use toiletries.

No, we most certainly do not.

If the Dean offered me a Teabag, I'd have politely declined.
What an odd question. Surely you were using toiletries before college?

Banjos don't have a sense of smell.
All we got was a box of microsoft-branded laundry soap.

Neither does ladies' shaving cream.

There isn't an iota of functional difference between the two products except one is dyed pink and is faintly perfumed. Don't be ridiculous.
Interesting you should post this as I happened to find myself at the University of Calgary today and I took about 10 "Irish Spring" deodorants from some girls handing them out for free.

I got army issue everything. One brand: made in the Russian jails...
I recall using shoes for a long time after the college. They were nice and sturdy. But they don't sell them, so I couldn't develop my brand loyalty.
I don't know that USMA gives out rubbers even in this modern 2011 world we live in...
I received a Gilette shaving kit when I hit 18, but it came in the mail to my parents house.
I lived at home in university, and never got anything like that.
Generally speaking, when it comes to toiletries and household products, once I buy and am satisfied with a particular brand, I will just keep buying it until doomsday. So, I have used many of the same brands now for a long time.

But they bind deliciously...
