Is there a way to get my laptop to stay on when I close the case? The laptop screen is kinda distracting when trying to watch a movie.
Yep. There is.
Mind sharing?
Not terribly.
:P
There should be an icon in your taskbar that shows you the battery. Right click on it and go to settings. Somewhere there will be an option for what happens when you close the lid. Change it.
If there's not one in your taskbar, you can find it on the control panel.
Danke schoen.

there should also be a way to display only to the HDMI port, not the laptop screen.

Is it just me or is that usually very finnicky? It's gotten way more intuitive lately, but I've had tremendous headaches fiddling with those kinds of settings.

I can never remember the key strokes, but it's something very easy - if you can remember. I think it's Windows key + P or something close to this...
Usually Fn F7 or F5
