Ok, now that everything is properly set up it's time to play for earnest. :P
The Major Languish Baseball franchise is a single league with 8 subdisivions of 4 teams each. During regular season one team plays every other 5 times, making 155 games.
An unpleasant surprise right at the start: Vienna has the shittiest market and smallest fanbase. Not to mention that our finances suck. Hence I moved the team focus at front office to "Rebuild" (instead of neutral or "Win now!").
By the way, the biggest team in the biz seem to be the Baltimore Irish:
Main problem is that I have no cash for extensions, and most players will be free to go after the season. I switch control over minor league affiliates (Attnang-Puchheim Switchbladed - AAA, Marchtrenk Wild - AA, Mattighofen Privateers - A, Engerwitzdorf Cowboys - SA, Schwaz Tractors - Rookies) to the AI for now. There's some potential in those teams, but they need to hone their skills.
My roster isn't too bad, but as said I will have a hard time keeping any of these players (OVR is the overall rating, POT the potential):
Starting rotation will be:
Yi
Shi
Suharto
Davis
Munos
Batting Line up:
Rogers
Yang
Yates
Sandell
Deleón
Salvenmoser
Graziadei
Cruz
Sandell and Yates performed exceptionally in spring training; Sandell led the RBI ratings, Yates the scored runs. No players were hurt in training, so there's that at least.
Our first series will be three matches against the Arizona Golden Eagles:

We play at home at the Vienna Food Court.
Damn the Irish!
We won the first match against Arizona, but it was close. Also, it bothered me that my starter was exhausted after the 5th inning.

Is PI pitches? Because a starter should be able to throw 100, being pulled after 69 is ridiculous. Was he hurt and missed some of spring training?
Attendance looked good, but it's opening day.

Maybe I'm a bit too squeamish with my starters. I usually check when they return to the mound if they're tired or exhausted. Though it appears that even if they pitch in "exhausted" state they can recover. I guess I should visit the mound more often to check on them and hear what they say themselves.
QuoteAttendance looked good, but it's opening day.
Indeed - see attendance in game 2 by comparison.

I'm also too tempted to try and steal bases with my fast runners as seen by "Caught Stealing" stats. -_-
I need to move up Salvenmoser up in the line up.
Another close one.

Deleón had his hand fractured in the 2nd, he'll be out for 4 or 5 weeks.
Looking good, you're undefeated so far.
Too bad about the right fielder though.
Your attendance is good, if you were in a really bad market you'd be drawing less than 20k

Doesn't count for much yet, though, as I've only faced one team so far. First series is through, and next we'll play at Budapest. They're at 1-2 after their first series at Warsaw.
I will post league stats/standings every 10 games, I guess.
How much control do you have for match day tactics?

How much control do you have for match day tactics?
Pretty much as much as you like, with one exception: you can't tell your pitchers which kind of pitch to use. You can give very elaborate AI directions for game situations (9 differentiations: tie, 1 run behind, 2 behind, 3 behind, 4+ behind; 1 run ahead, 2 ahead, 3 ahead, 4+ ahead), and inning (1-3, 4-6, 7&8, 9+). So you can decide what behavior the AI shall use when you're trailing 3 runs in the middle innings. Those can further be tweaked for players. The manual explains it better:
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/documentation/ootp9/index.php?page=overall_strategy
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/documentation/ootp9/index.php?page=player_strategy
I don't use strategy; instead I go play by play, the options for which are here:
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/documentation/ootp9/index.php?page=game_controls
I do use the lineups, though, where you set your team depending on whether you face righty or lefty pitchers etc. and the depth chart:
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/documentation/ootp9/index.php?page=lineups_depth_charts
(You can also have the AI take over offense, or defense, or substitutions, or all and just watch play by play).
The results of Day 4:

I lost to the Hackers, even though I did catch up in hits towards the end.
Day 5 results. With our worst pitchers facing off, the match against Budapest was a bit of a slugfest, but the Cannibals came out on top.

I've been playing the 09 season using a fan-created roster set. No Arod injury, but both Jeter and Burnett are out (early May). Toronto is in first in the east. The Mets have the best record in baseball and Beltran is leading all triple crown categories.

Dear Hod. Everything seemed fine till the Braziers scored the 3 run homer in the 7th. :bleeding: Braziers were 2-7 before the match; and they have about the worst ERA and RBI scores of the league. On the other hand, Munoz pitched significantly better (6.00 ERA) than in his previous outing against Budapest where he had 12.60.

Manufacture. I have a few batters that are good at getting hits, some are good runners/stealers (though except Salvenmoser no one combines it). I don't have any super powerful hitters, though, so waiting for homers would be suicide. On the other hand, my team's bunters are also not quite stellar.

QuoteMonday, April 21st, 2008: 5-6 Game for Anderson
It was a good day for the Hackers at Ballpark of Budapest as they clipped the Rhode Island Timmays 13-4. It was tremendous day for John Anderson, who went on quite a hitting spree with a 5 for 6 barrage.
The Budapest second baseman told reporters after his big 5-hit performance, "I don't have any buzz words. I'm not 'dialed in' or 'in a zone,' as they say. As far as the hitting goes, I try to keep it simple. I try not to look into it too much. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then try to hit it. Today I picked up the spin very well."
J. Anderson singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off A. Närhi in the 6th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
I consider moving to simming the next matches, though. Going play by play like now I'll not be through with the season before May or June.
Finished the series against the Hive on a loss. Went 1-2 against Madrid and was hopeful for the match against the Beaners who were 7-17 vs. my 10-14. The reality, however ....

Yeah, yeah, rub it in.

Series ended 1-2 for the Beaners.

Interesting stats: according to the finance info, every loss/win costs me between 125k and 150k (based on player earnings).
For the Baltimore Irish it's 850k for a win and 2.2m for a loss. For Kentucky it's 650k vs. 2.5m
Individual stats:

I'm in a bit of a conundrum.
Some of my best batters suck at defense. In addition, two of them are only capable in one position each, so I have others who'd be better suited for those positions elsewhere (e.g. SS instead of 3B). <_<
Case in point: Chris Yates. My best batter. Popular with the fans. Bad points: runs like a snail. Can only play 1st base, and is only mediocre at that; while I have 3 top men who could take the position but instead play in positions where they, in turn, are mediocre.

Should have added the DH to your leagues :P

I consider doing that for the next season :P
May results and awards. Yates is doing that just to spite me. We had a few wins in the past few series, though.

The draft pool is up, but there's not really all that much talent there. six or seven players with 4+ or 5 stars potential. A couple 3 stars, and a few 2 stars, but 95% 1 stars.
Damn Beaners, stinking up the division!
Judging by money and public attention Vienna is clearly the novelty team of the league. :Embarrass:

The All Star match between the North Americans and Rest of World ended 2-1 for the New World. Yates scored three hits at 4 ABs in that game. The Jap I got through a trade is out with injury for 8 weeks.
In a bit of an upset the Cannibals beat the Alberta Administrators at Richard Nixon Stadium. The Admins didn't even manage to get a hit off the Vienna pitchers.

My batting stats aren't too bad, but it appears my pitchers need some loving.

Not cool to pull the pitcher in the 8th inning of a no-hitter when up by 6 runs.
Also you may want to have Rogers cool it on the basepaths. 21 for 38 attempts is not a good ratio, even for your suspect offense.
I guess the AI pulled the pitcher because he was tired (Endurance 14).
I noticed that, too (Rogers ration, Graziadei is also 33-22, Salvenmoser 12-14). I already reduced their eagerness to run in their strat settings. <_<
Standings end of August. With only 15 games of the regular season to go I guess there's not much chance for the Cannibals to go to the Play Offs.

Considering the low budget roster I have I'm rather pleased with the results, though.

Yes, Yates is second best batter in the league.
Btw, I will probably divide the league into two subleagues for the next season.
Play off pairings are:
Vancouver Crazies 3 - Kentucky Legionaires 1
Oxnard Trolls 3 - Portland Baldies 2
Jakarta Blades 0 - Alberta Administrators 3
Bristol Possessors 0 - London Braziers 3
San Francisco Grabbers 1 - New York Robins 3
Montréal Foxes 1 - Copenhagen Hive 3
Baltimore Irish 3 - Seoul Admirals 0
Arkansas Drunkards 1 - Warsaw Foot Ticklers 3
A bit of a surprise that the Kentuckians died in the first round, considering that they dominated the entire regular season.
Second Round.
Oxnard 4 - Vancouver 3
London 4 - Alberta 0
Copenhagen 3 - New York 4
Warsaw 1 - Baltimore 4
Oxnard 2 - London 4
Baltimore 1 - New York 4
The London Brazier win the Languish Series 4-1.
For the coming season the league is divided into the European & Asian League (EAL) and the North American League (NAL).
Also, the year end awards are in:

Note how 7 of 12 awards go to teams that weren't in the play offs. :P
My team for the new season is mildly changed. I have a few new starters, improving the quality of my rotation (relievers/closers were great already). My star pitcher Shi left, though. I didn't want to pay him 24m/year (or 50+% of my budget).
