Title: For CdM and the Axis of anime...
Post by: viper37 on June 07, 2011, 02:04:22 PM
Manga Ph.D (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-06-07/kyoto-seika-university-offers-japan-1st-manga-ph.d)

QuoteKyoto Seika University announced (http://info.kyoto-seika.ac.jp/info/topics/2011/06/20124.php)  on Tuesday that it will offer Japan's first doctorate program in manga  studies to new students, beginning in April of next year. The university  in Kyoto has a 40-year history of academic study in manga and  animation.

There's never been such a better time for a return to school. :)

:bleeding: Universties and colleges should be audited for stupid course and funding cut for making a travesty of education.

Do you oppose PhDs in Literature?

Manga is quite important - and has been so for centuries - in Japanese society, and certainly deserves its own PhD (since the course itself already exists for over 40 years, just not the PhD).

You should have cried when they started founding theology faculties in middle ages.

I am actually surprised the Ph.D hadn't been already available in Japan.

squid rape porn has been a motif in japan for like 300 years (seriously. the bomb didn't mess them up, they were already messed up), should that have a PhD? ;) My main objection is that i doubt serious people interested in the history of manga will gravitate to this degree. it's be the Tim's and Lettow's of society.

It's a multi-billion dollar industry that takes up 50% of the Japanese publishing industry. There are lots of serious business people involved.

It's doesn't follow that you should be able to get a PHD in it!

You are doomed when the second ghost dance starts, King Nothing.

See folks? There is a Shadowrun and a Metallica reference. Eat that.

The Re-Education and Relocation Act hasn't been passed, so don't think that I have a Ghost Dance to worry about.

I wonder if you can get a PhD in prostitution or child trafficking in Thailand.

Disturber Pervert will say that's impossible as there's no child trafficking in Thailand, just Laos.
