Title: How much does it take for you to get drunk?
Post by: HisMajestyBOB on May 30, 2011, 11:37:18 PM
Well?
I just finished off a whole bottle of wine, plus 1 nearly empty bottle.
That's way more than Siege can handle. ^_^
And I'm generally a lightweight or medium-weight.

I don't drink, and I have never been drunk.  So I have no idea.  But I imagine that it won't take much.

Beer tastes too nasty to drink in the quantities required.

In terms of BAC level of "drunk" or in terms of tolerance "drunk"?  I've spent the last 10 years working in bars and work at a bar and a brewery now, so... I can handle my way around alcohol pretty well.

The one time I decided to test it, it took about probably 7-9 Baileys Irish Cream and chocolate milkshakes.

My intestinal tract will never forgive me for trying to get drunk on Baileys.

As for effect of drunkenness, the feeling was mostly just like being really, really tired (i.e., nodding off and head doing the chicken-bob thing).  My mind seemed mostly still acute, but physical coordination was definitely gone.

Never got drunk on beer. Not a beer person.

How long is a piece of string?

Currently I get relatively juiced up by one bottle of wine.

I have fond memories (or, well, bits and pieces) of new years 2007 where I managed to down 3-4 bottles of wine (and possibly almost a whole bottle of champagne), a couple of shots, an indeterminate amount of 0.5l cans of beer and a few glasses of cognac. But I'd been hitting the bottle pretty hard that year. Bathroom reeked of vomit and sour wine for a week afterwards.  :hmm:

But I've indulged in alcohol less than a half-dozen times the last year, and my tolerance is way, way lower than it used to be.

(Voted 2-4 assuming you mean 0.5l of ~6%, rather than the piss-water in 0.33 cans)

Impossible with pure beer.
So much liquid for so little drunkenness, there's no way I can fit 10 beers inside in a short enough length of time.
Tipsyness...that depends. When I haven;t been drinking for a while and haven't ate one or two can do it. Other times its three or four.

I get tipsy/inebriated very easily, after a large glass of wine or a cocktail. After 2-3 I know I have had enough.

I rarely if ever drink beer so can't answer the question.

Impossible is too strong a word.  When I was in college, I once finished 8 pints in a little under 2 hours.

I can't stomach more than 2-3 beers, but it's about too much liquid.

0,5l of vodka is about the limit, but again my stomach refuses to take more... unless it's all 1:1 with Martini.   :licklips:
And I just get sleepy, not getting drunk.

If I finish a six pack there's no doubt I'm drunk.

I'm probably drunk after 4.

It's interesting to learn about some of the science of intoxication (and I've heard alcohol experts testify so many times I almost consider myself an expert).  While different people are affected somewhat differently by alcohol, the experts all agree that after an average of 4 beer (100 mg alcohol per 100 mL of blood for 150lb individual) EVERYONE's ability to drive a vehicle (and perform similar tasks) is noticeably impaired.

It's also interesting that for all the talk of tolerances, your body doesn't actually get more tolerant of the inebriating effects.  You just learn, both consciously and subconsciouly, various coping techniques if you're an experienced drinker.  Your perceptions and reflexes are equally impaired.

Depends on my energy level, I guess.  I've had times when I've been so fatigued I feel a noticeable effect from one medium-strength beer.  But if I'm feeling normal, 6 beers with no food consumed during that time would probably make me a bit tipsy.

I still can't get over how much I drank at our wedding reception & still managed to keep my wits about me.   I probably killed 2 bottles of champagne plus a few beers & a glass or two of red wine.  Had just enough to loosen me up to be able to sing La Bamba as I had promised/threatened, but not enough to make an ass out of myself, believe it or not.  After a solid 7 hours of sleep I felt pretty good the next day.

10 plus beers to be drunk

12 pack and 750ml of tequila to blackout and wakeup on bathroom floor next to toilet.

Four or Five pints will make me nicely tipsy, but it only takes another couple of pints after that to leave me completely blotto (and walking into postal boxes.)

You should try Miller Lite.

I hate to agree with the Crown, but this is pretty much true.  There is a little tolerance effect with alcohol, but nothing like the real physical tolerance you get with e.g. heroin.

I tend to be able to hold my own with booze, for better or worse.

I decided one day a couple of years ago to switch to light beer and bought a 12-pack of Siege's favorite, Miller Lite, sat down at the table, cracked one open and started reading a novel.  After a few I decided I really loved the Lite, and after about 7 or 8 I decided I was too drunk to read and sat down to watch ESPN with my roommate.  After 10 I decided I should just finish the pack.   Then I went to sleep with my clothes on, got up, and faced the day :Embarrass:

I don't think I could get drunk off of just beer.  I know back in college I didn't, and believe me, I drank plenty of the stuff in those days.  OTOH, "only hard liquor" isn't accurate, either, because I could definately get drunk on strong wine.

I rarely drink, so it usually only takes me about 4 drinks to get drunk. Today, I got dragged into an after work happy hour and I definitely had too much to drink, but I sort of hard no choice as it was my first day.

This. When I was in uni, going out to celebrate the same evening of a successful test always meant I was drunk with one or two pints.

I'm on my 5th beer of the night, and while I certainly notice something, I am still far from what I think many of you are referring to by "drunk".

In fact, I think my tolerance is quite low.  I will usually feel very sick and puke before I black out or lose total control or anything.  Although, the only time I arguably was quite drunk (and it was from vodka), I made out with a recently married girl while her husband and their friends were in the next room.  It was an incredibly stupid thing to do, considering everyone at that party was a friend of her husband and I didn't know a single person there except that girl.  Fortunately, nobody walked in on us.  Anyway, that was the last evening I really got out of control with my drinking.

I prefer wine over beer but for the purposes of this poll, I went with beer, and it usually takes four beers in an hour for me to seriously feel the affects. I rarely drink that much beer that quickly, however, as it generally just makes me feel bloated.  :x

With wine, however, it takes a full bottle (roughly 4.5 glasses) in an hour.. and that's not as rare as the beer.

I used to take half a 24 pack before going out, drink a few beers, a couple of shooters, go back home, take another 6 beers and get to bed drunk.

Nowadays, I rarely go over 12, and while I certainly wouldn't drive like this, I can't say I am drunk in the sense of doing some stupid shit and forgetting about it.  Unless I'm tired.  In this case, a six pack can make me very drunk.
Wine-wise, it's usually after toward the end of the 2nd bottle that I feel a little something...  Well, at the 2nd, I would say I'm drunk, slurred speech and all.  Just no crazy shit.

Definitely not in beer though.  :x

I start feeling that I've been drinking halfway through my second beer & start slurring after about four.  Most of my drinking lately has been Afternoon Drinking -- start popping them open after mowing the lawn on a Saturday, grill a late lunch/ early dinner & then quit drinking after dinner, which means that I'll typically put away six to eight beers in an afternoon and be nice & toasty, but still be able to sober up by mid evening.

I can't remember the last time I had more than a dozen beers in a sitting, which is my Point of No Return these days (where I can wake up the next morning & be fine after a glass of water & a cup of coffee).  I know that Once Upon A Time I could drink twice that amount & still be Ambulatory, but I don't feel particularily compelled to test that these days.  Being hung over with Weiner Kids under foot isn't any fun...
