QuotePresident Barack Obama said Wednesday he's decided not to release death photos of terrorist Osama bin Laden because their graphic nature could incite violence and create national security risks for the United States.
"There's no doubt we killed Osama bin Laden," the president said in an interview with CBS News. Obama said he had seen the death photo and there was no need to release the photograph or gloat. "There's no need to spike the football," he said.
The president said that for anyone who doesn't believe bin Laden is dead, "we don't think that a photograph in and of itself is going to make any difference."
"There are going to be some folks who deny it. The fact of the matter is you won't see Osama bin Laden walking on this earth again," said Obama.
The president made his comments in an interview Wednesday with CBS' "60 Minutes". Presidential spokesman Jay Carney read the president's quotes to reporters in the White House briefing room, ahead of the program's airing.

Probably less than a week.
The Obama admin is probably just waiting to get bin Laden's birth certificate, for Donald Trump's benefit, to avoid a new 'Trumped-up' conspiracy! ;)

I think the value of Trump either as a candidate or a false flag is pretty much gone.
Good. Those 9/11 widows annoy me.

It seems like he must have felt pretty secure, with Pakistani govt support on at least some levels. Otherwise he really was in a rather ostentatious place for someone hiding from much of the world's intel, military and police services.

 It was the last place they looked.
The fake death pictures have been a hoot. The first one was obviously used from an old bin Laden pic since he had almost no grey in how beard, and the other I saw had him looking oddly like the alien from the alien autopsy video.

It would be awesome to have a pic of Obama drinking mead out of bin Laden's skull. :D

Yeah, that's why I said OBL must have felt secure, with some help from govt friends. He had a place where he could hide out but still have decent surroundings, and apparently withlittle pressure on him. Certainly no one in the know in Pakistan was ratting him out, and likely he would get intel if anyone got close. So I'm thinking he was quite surprised to find US troops paying him a visit.

So whats the basis of the conspiracy theories here? That Bin Laden is not dead? He would be jumping up and down on released videos now.
Or that he died a long time ago and the US now? Thats retardism at its finest, to think any US administration would keep the kill in secret, or do not pretend they offed him themselves, and just shelf the fact for later use.
But, if Mart and Slarg want to be the same as the "Elvis lives!" crowd, I say let them.

I think that no matter what the administration does, some nuts will find a way to make it into a conspiracy. Therefore, they shouldn't be (and aren't, I'm sure) considering that angle when making decisions related to bin Laden or really anything else.
Perfect example: When Obama released his full birth certificate, one of the major rebuttals was "LOLOLOLL it says CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH not BIRTH CERTIFICIATE! Fake!!!!!!!!! Crypto-Indonesian-Kenyan-Muslum!11111111"
ummmm, idiots? Try taking a look at your own birth certificates. For the hell of it I checked mine (kept in a firesafe in my house), and it reads CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH at the top, too. Am I: secret nazi muslim negro? :(
There are pictures and video of men landing on the moon, and still for some people it's a hoax! :D
I guess pics of OBL's corpse might satisfy some curiosity of people, some pols and some of the media, but for the true conspiracy folks, or others who just want to be contrary, the pics won't matter.

Quite. Post the photo and we'll claim photoshop and note that he's been "killed" before. Don't post the photo and it will be a coverup and he'll resurface again shortly.
Sure, it's quite possible that he's actually in custody rather than dead, but I don't think they'd dare publicize it like this without being damn sure that he'll never float another death-to-america video again.

That would surprise me. SEALs (or any highly trained spec op-type personnel) aren't the type to unload a full mag into someone. They take precise, aimed shots and I doubt the whole team would have opened up on him.
Having said that, even just a 3-round burst to the head can look pretty damned gruesome.

You don't use 3-rounds burst while clearing rooms. Single shot only.
Besides, all SOCOM weapons have full auto when in burst, not the retarded 3 round burst the regular army M4s have.
Whatever. I don't jerk off to gun porn.

Seriously. I was wondering if I was the only one cynical enough to think that the pics will be "leaked" ... right in time to influence the next election. ;)
This sorta reminds me of the whole birth certificate nonsense. Whatever else Obama is, he's a long-term thinker when it comes to politics. He allowed various opponents to make fools of themselves over this "birther" foolishness until everyone was sick of it ... and only *then* released his birth certificate, demonstrating in the most obvious possible way that they were full of stupid.
Similarly, knowing that the American public has a short attention span but an elephant's memory for avenging injuries, in purely political terms holding back the pics (which can surely make no difference one way or the other to the situation) allows Obama the luxury of releasing them through "leaks" or otherwise at a time of *his* choosing - which may well be when it is most politically advantageous to remind the public that it is *he*, and no other, who was on watch when Osama was hunted down. Allowing his more out-there opponents to, once again, make absurd claims he knows are untrue (and once again proving they are full of stupid) is an added bonus.
Do photos like this fall under the freedom of information acts? It's not like they actually show anything secret, just gruesome.
Osama dead > Janet Jackson nipple slip.

Disagree. The compound contained 22 people, many of them armed. The SEALs were racing against a 30 minute clock. A team runs into Osama's room, he turns away, possibly either to pick up a weapon or to head to another exit, the good guys are not in a position to hold their fire and bring in an interpreter to negotiate Osama's surrender.

Look, Im not saying that its impossible to conjure up a scenario in which there would be a good explanation. And I dont want to get into a discussion about how likely scenario 1, 2 or 3 are. OK. I thought you meant it would be pretty damning to *you*.
If the SEALs were to execute OBL, wouldn't they be knowledgeable enough to use something with less power than an assault rifle? I'm sure at least some of them had pistols. I'm sure they were aware that removing half of OBL's head during his execution was not the ideal scenario for a number of reasons.

I wish I knew Stiller & Seinfeld!
Sorry Syt but last I heard you are the bigger fatass than I.
I don't eat much ice cream anyways.

If the SEALs were to execute OBL, wouldn't they be knowledgeable enough to use something with less power than an assault rifle? I'm sure at least some of them had pistols. I'm sure they were aware that removing half of OBL's head during his execution was not the ideal scenario for a number of reasons.
5.56 doesn't cause that much damage/large exit wound in the face areas.
But yes, I assume they did it with a pistol. My understanding was they shot him basically in the temple right behind the eyes, so it immediately sounded like an execution to me, considering how many people on the television kept mentioning how he no longer had eyes.
8 ball in the side pocket. Who cares.
I do hope words were spoken, but I think those SEAL guys are a bit too professional for that.

Wasn't there a policy during the Bush Administration not to show photos of corpses (they didn't always follow it), but I still remember some talk about it.

Our corpses. Uday and Qusay, not so much.
