Well this shouldn't come as a complete shock. I think it was February when there were news articles about her going to the hospital for treatment of congestive heart failure.

I wonder if I should be surprised that Slarg would violate the good behavior standard in a RIP thread.
I don't think anyone's surprised at the actions of a classless mongrel by this point.

RIP one of the Queens of 20th Century Culture. :(

You are a fucking retard. I can get shitting on a RIP thread when the person being honored was, in your view, a scumbag, but doing so simply because you don't think the person was relevant enough? That's totally classless.

What's classless is spewing this garbage over this particular old crone simply because she was famous.
You forgot hot and glamorous...and tabloid fodder.
What am I missing w/ Marty's rant. Was she a gay icon of some sort?

Plus her life was filled with drama and failed relationships. I mean that is just pure diva gold right there.
Also she had tons of gay friends (Rock Hudson comes to mind), gave millions to AIDS research, and founded AmFAR.

I understand your agony Slarg. I really do.
They're burying her today, in accordance with Jewish law. Who knew?
The weather gods went crazy in New York yesterday over her death.
There's a quiz show which ran a year or two back called clever vs stupid. They had two teams of contestants, one made up of folk from a stupid profession like hairdressers or whatever, and the other of people from a clever profession. Dullness ensued.
They had a segment in the middle though where they went out and asked the public questions. They caught my sister one episode- Q: 'What is the Queen of England's name?' A: '...err...Elizabeth isn't it?...err...Elizabeth Taylor?'
James Dean was molested by his pastor when he was a kid. Liz told a reporter about it some years ago apparently, but made him sit on the news until after she died.
So that happened in 1942. A lot of boys were abused by their pastors in those times.

I stand by my opinion. If you're sad because a person you've seen on TV dies, there's something fundamentally wrong with you. If you pretend to be sad because it's what you're supposed to do, there's something fundamentally wrong with society and you're a fucking conformist prick.
And by "you" I mean "all y'all", not you specifically. I don't think you personally possess emotion. :P

This is retarded. While I think that crying after Lady D the way you would cry after your mother is fucked up, our civilization's very concept of humanitas is based on the assumption that we care for people we never met.

Actors and actresses touch our lives and cause people to exhibit emotional responses. That's what makes pop culture popular. Now, I realize that might be a concept you have some difficulty with, as your native land has no culture to speak of. Rest assured that things are different inside the Anglosphere.

Rest assured, I have no trouble accepting the concept that the anglosphere has such a conflicted relationship with empathy that they need to create emotional attachments to characters on a TV-screen instead of real people. Have we perhaps found the reason why there's so much internal violence in your culture where the Scandinavian culture has always been relatively internally peaceful until the advent of multiculturalism?

Scandinavian culture hasn't really been so peaceful, at least in a historical sense. Still, I suppose that pursuing a policy of isolationism did give Scandinavia time to do some nation-building.
Remember though, that I'm from the wealthiest, most peaceful part of the Anglosphere. 'Internal violence' is for places with ethnic minorities.

I remember giving them a listen years ago, and being shocked at how amateurish the whole affair was. You'd think that if they wanted to be proud of being white, they'd also want to take some pride in their musicianship. Then again, maybe they got better over the years, as they were quite young at the time.
Of course, they probably had to grow up and get real jobs, since they'd be adults by now.
