My actual car (BMW 5 series Touring, xDrive) is 4 years old and 189.000 kms old, so it's time for me (or better, my company) to substitute it with a new one.
Which one shoud I pick, considering the following requisites:
1. Spacious: I have three kids, aged from 2 1/2 to 7, who need their kids' seats, and in my actual car they're fitting like sardines in a can.
2. Lots of room for baggage: same as above, I'm still going around with a $2.000 stroller, pliable bed, tons of clothes my wife is unable to make luggage that weighs less than 20 kilos for a three-day vacation trip)
3. Comfortable: I drive about 45.000 kms per year, so I want a car that's silent, comfortable, good AC, good stereo, etc etc
4. Engine: Some (a lot of) horsepower is always welcome
and yes, the last option is there for when I'll win the lottery. Or I'll hit 50.

Do you still own your Black Steed?

Range Rover if you can afford it, and the petrol.
Escalade. Niggah needs to travel in style.
Other: XC90 might be an alternative.

I've seen a very similar car to the Escalade, but it was a Lincoln: what's the difference from the cadillac?
I never liked Volvo...
@Brazen: the Range Rover is an exceptional car, but yes, costs will be skyrocketing.

11. BMW 5 series Touring
Never seen a Ford Galaxy before.
Sounds like you need one of those family van type vehicles. Lots of room for kids and luggage, and I think some of the newer models are pretty good on fuel mileage.
Range Rover is a cool car, as cool as an SUV can be, but repairs will be very frequent, and very expensive.

I didn't want a Honda Odyssey either. But man, it makes life easier.

Are you talking about the Lincoln Navigator? Does that come under the same name in Euroland? Anyway, as far as those supermassive SUVs go, there's something to consider- how straight are the roads around you? Navigators and Escalades have tremendous amounts of body roll- those feel like they're going to tip on even moderate curves. I'd go for the BMW X5 myself; I'd assume it'd bounce and roll a lot less than a Caddy or a Lincoln.
Go with the Microbus, and plaster it with Grateful Dead stickers.

That was my idea when I posted the pic :D Or a megasticker "PEDRITOBUS"
@ DSB: interesting remark: I'll use it for mountain trips too, so this could influence the choice. For some time after I got the driving license I've driven a 1986 Range Rover and boy if it rolled on every curve! But it was a dream of a car.
BTW, I've only seen one Lincoln, it surely was an imported car because Lincoln does not have a sales network in Italy.

Do you need actual off-road capability? 'Cause if you do, the Range Rover becomes a much better choice.
If not, of the listed models, get the Ford.
EDIT: Wait, wait. Your company is paying for this. Forget boring but practical, and get the R Class (still practical, which you need, but not as boring).
Tomorrow I'll have a test drive with a Land Rover Discovery (number 2 of the photos): half the price of a Range Rover classic, same fuel consumption, let's see how comfortable it is in an highway environment. :hmm:
L.
If you consider the BMW 5 Touring, you should consider the Mercedes E class T model as well. It's got a gigantic boot and is generally very spacious, so you should fit in three kids and luggage.
Of your list, I obviously would go with the Mercedes GL. ;)
I am partial to the Toyota Land Cruiser myself.

My boss has an R Class and he's so happy with Mercedes he swears he's going back to BMW when the time comes to replace it.
Oookay, after the test drive I'm officially in love with the Land Rover Discovery
Yes, it's 2,5 tons; yes, it looks like a box with another bigger box attached to the back; yes, during the test drive fuel consumption never went below 10 liters for 100 kms;
but it's *extremely* comfortable, silent even at 140 kmh, can have 7 seats, the motor is more brilliant than it seems (given that it weighs really a lot, and the driver immediately feels it) and generally speaking it has a very nice Land Rover feeling, and its price is about half the Range Rover Classic.

HSE version, 245hp engine, some optionals: € 54.000 tax included :glare:
Consider I'll sell my actual car to the retailer, so in the end I'll spend something around 44.000 Yuros
