Title: Computer lockups, wtf
Post by: JonasSalk on March 09, 2011, 10:36:17 PM
So my computer randomly locks up sometimes, usually once every couple of days.  It seems to happen if I turn my downloads (Vuze) and then it'll happen sometime while I have them on, or even after I turn the program off.  Basically everything just locks up and I don't get a warning message or anything.  I just have to shut down the PC and restart.  Wtf.

I can't help it.  It's part of my people's blood.  To the shores of Tripoli.

OS? Win 7 Home?

Also, did you put more RAM in your computer?

Have you done any recent driver installations without cleaning out the old ones? Any, say, beta versions of browsers with hardware accelaration turned on?

I have come to believe that Windows 7 in many ways is a modern-day bureaucrat who wants us to jump through hoops just for kicks and therefore insists on procedure for procedure's sake and also hates change.

It could also be that the latest version of Vuze is acting up, with it being full of code and whatnot.

Stop using Vuze.

Also check for heat.

Yeah.  Step one: wipe your torrents.  Security-wise, that's on par with downloading stuff from Limewire.

Pfft, uTorrent won't stop the trojans in all those Razor1911-cracked games he's downloading. :P

It's been going on for a while, so I don't think it's anything "new" that I've installed.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium.  I didn't install any new RAM.  I used uTorrent previously but it stopped working for some reason, so I switched to Vuze.  I don't have any heat issues inside the case.

I'd try and uninstall Vuze and re-install after a reboot.

I seem to vaguely remember some issue about computer freezing due to weird setups in torrent clients.
Did you Google?  :hmm:

Seems like it's a common problem with Vuze: http://forum.vuze.com/message.jspa?messageID=185483
