QuoteOfficial: 16 dead in German school shooting
17-year-old gunman 'carried out a bloodbath' before police shot him
BREAKING NEWS
updated 3 minutes ago
STUTTGART, Germany - A 17-year-old gunman dressed in black opened fire at his former high school in southwestern Germany on Wednesday, killing at least 15 people before police shot and killed him, a German official said Wednesday.
It was Germany's worst shooting since another teenage gunman killed 16 people and himself in another high school in 2002.
Most of the slain students were found dead in the school and the gunman killed an adult outside the building as he escaped, regional police spokesman Klaus Hinderer said.

"He went into the school with a weapon and carried out a bloodbath," said regional police chief Erwin Hetger. "I've never seen anything like this in my life."
After the attack, the suspect fled the Albertville high school toward the center of Winnenden, a town of 28,000, Hinderer said, before police tracked him down.
The teenager graduated from the school last year, police said.

Witnesses said students jumped from the windows of the school building after the gunman
opened fire. Concerned parents quickly swarmed around the school, which was evacuated during the incident.
The man entered the school at 9:30 a.m. and opened fire, shooting at random, police said. Police said the suspect was dressed in a black.
About 1,000 children attend the school, located in a suburb some 12 miles northeast of Stuttgart.
In 2002, 19-year-old Robert Steinhaeuser shot and killed 12 teachers, a secretary, two students and a police officer before turning his gun on himself in the Gutenberg high school in Erfurt.
Steinhaeuser, who had been expelled for forging a doctor's note, was a gun club member licensed to own weapons. The attack led Germany to raise the age for owning recreational firearms from 18 to 21.

Well, that should keep the Euros from crowing about school shootings for a little while.
You have nuts everywhere. What's new?

Oh, so if a school shooting happens in Europe the reason is that there are "nuts everywhere", if it happens in America it's because of our evil culture and gun laws. I'll make a note of that.

Every time Timmayh posts, a school shooter gets his guns.

Who the fuck are you?
Probably Isebrand = Redundant.
My guess: FPS games will be found on his PC and computer games and other media will be blamed for his violent behavior. There'll be a further tightening of violence censorship in Germany; like 7 years ago after the Erfurt shootings.
Never mind his social environment or that his dad had 16 (legally acquired) guns in the house.

Indeed. Instead of that we should discuss gun control. In Europe the countries with the most hunters (and thus the most guns) have these kind of disasters, just like in the US.

Surely you understand the very basic logical fallacy of confusing correlation with causation?

Yes, that's why I wrote "discuss" instead of "forbid".

In his defense, there isn't even a correlation. Sweden has a higher amount of per capita gun ownership, especially what with the entire homeguard situation, yet we don't have these shootings yet.
He's just being an idiot, not making a poorly substantiated argument. There is an excuse for the former.

Note how the friend remains conveniently anonymous. Also, Counterstrike has become synonymous in Germany with "superviolent/gory game that rewards people for shooting civilians".

Which is completely true. The freedom fighters clearly have been left with no other option than expressing their anger by blowing things up or taking hostages. There are clearly not enough youth centers in the CS universe, and no attempts to negotiate with them. Problems are always settled with weapons, and the police are seldom satisfied until all so called "terrorists" are dead. There are never any arrests.
I definitely see where they're coming from. It's a deplorable game that corrupts our youth, turning them into mindless americans.

So the post he wrote on the interweb complaining that noone ever noticed his potential was rubbish? "I have guns here, I'm serious. Tomorrow I'll go down to my old school and shoot."
Apparently, the guy announced his plans on a board/in a chat, but ended with: "Don't go to the police, I'm just trolling.":

I wonder how long it will be before a Languish post ends up making the news.
"He posted his plans on this Internet site, and others, thinking he was joking, goaded him ... "
Austria is also discussing the events and also has a discussion about violent video games. Austrian laws are much more lax in that regard than the laws in Germany, so it's not very likely that much will come of it here.
What I didn't know, though, is that where Germany has an official office that checks if games are bad for kids and puts them on an index is that's the case, Austria has a similar office that instead gives seals of approvals to games and offers checklists what parents should think about when buying games for their kids; one line of thinking being that taking games off the market only makes them more interesting, and in the days of the internet they can be obtained, anyways.
Recommended games include plenty adventure games and lesser known kid oriented titles, but also Civ4, 1701 AD, FIFA games, EU3, Galciv 2, Madden 08 & 09, NHL 09 and 2k8 or FlightSim X.
Then again, I'm not sure how many parents consciously seek out that site or their recommendations.
