Thank heavens we have a president who presents a weak & subservient image to the rest of the world.

Thank god we have Drudge to report this hyperventilating nonsense as front page material! There's no way a Republican ever engaged in similar behavior...

Anyway, if Obama really wants to repair our relationship with Europe, why doesn't he start bowing to European leaders?  Why is it always Asians & the occasional Arab despot?

Sarko is tiny.  Merkel can't be too tall.  And I'm pretty sure Medvedev is *literally* a puppet.

He should prostate himself before His Majesty Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.

There are probably photos of him "bowing" to those people as well.  GWB didn't have this problem on account he wasn't very tall either.

Merkel isn't that tiny though. I'd guess she's somewhere between 5'7" and 5'9"ish. When I saw Medvedev this fall, he did look like a puppet.

He's 5'11, just 2 inches shorter than Obama.  Bush-41 was actually an inch taller than Obama :smarty:

Q.  Why is Hu meeting w/ Obama

A.  To give in on the currency and Iran issues despite Obama's refusal to budge on Taiwan.

The PRC tested him, he held his ground, and when health care passed, they concluded they weren't going to get him to make concessions on key issues.  Now they are making nice to fix things up.

I leave it to the teatards to do the semiotic analyses of neck angles; my interest tends more to stuff like policy and results.  If bowing a lot would have made Bush's brain start functioning, then IMO he should have kowtowed like a dippy bird toy.

Maybe MM knows something we don't, but he seems to be taking a somewhat optimistic view of what has transpired:

.Amid a sudden upswing in relations, U.S. President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao sought common ground Monday on Iran, instructing their respective diplomats to work on a set of potential sanctions to make clear to Iran the cost of continued nuclear defiance, a White House official said.

The two leaders met on the sidelines of a U.S.-hosted summit on nuclear proliferation.

White House national security aide Jeff Bader said Iran was a major topic of discussion at the hour-and-a-half-long session between Mr. Obama and his Chinese counterpart.

"They're prepared to work with us," Mr. Bader said. He called it another sign of international unity on the subject.

The upbeat tone reflected a recent warming of U.S.-Chinese diplomatic ties.

Still, Mr. Bader's remarks echoed recent comments from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice and others that the Chinese are now willing to talk turkey on sanctions — although nothing about a specific commitment. They started working on language at the UN last week.

Most of the meeting was about Iran, Mr. Bader said, although the two leaders did talk about currency briefly, with Mr. Obama reiterating his view that there needs to be "a more market-oriented exchange rate." U.S. manufacturers claim China keeps its currency pegged to the dollar to make its exports cheaper. China, however, has given signs in recent days of moving toward allowing its currency to rise.

Mr. Bader called it a "positive and constructive" meeting, "a meeting without talking points" involving leaders who are "familiar and comfortable with each other."

He said the two leaders did break for a moment of silence to honour the 29 U.S. miners killed last week in West Virginia in the worst U.S. coal-mining disaster since 1970.

Before long China is going to have to give ground on currency--and actually they have been giving ground.

Still doesn't even come close to the Honecker-Brezhnev make-out session.

Iran isn't important.  Them getting nukes is not in Chinese interests too.  But since the US is crazy about it, Iran is a useful bargaining chip.  On the currenty issue, even absent US pressure, the Chinese management is deeply divided on what to do.  Sooner or later, the camp that thinks a high RMB value is good for China will win the argument.  Hu's message to Obama is: don't pressure us too much or you'll just make us do the opposite of what you want us to do.

There have been a staged series of statements and "off the record" comments from PRC officials mooting an upward drift of the renminbi.   The markets are already pricing in a move.

On Iran, the latest communique represents a significant shift from prior policy to put off sanctions indefinitely.

In diplospeak terms, this is a big shift.

A kiss on the lips given the American connotations is much, much worse. It's clear that Bush is the bottom in the relationship and is projecting weakness abroad.
