Question:
The Golden Age of the now defunct Tri-Fora System was:
Option 1: Pre-Diaspora EUOT (which is to say, pre Iraq Attack)
votes: 11
Option 2: The Rise of Languish as an Exiiles hangout
votes: 9
Option 3: The True Tri-Fora: With KAPLand providing the outlet of the Nasty
votes: 26
Option 4: Consolidatoin - KAPLand collapses as Languish absorbs the flotsam
votes: 12
Option 5: The New Languish, now shed of the years of crap posts and SPAM, rising like a drunken, autistic pheonix from the flames
votes: 6
Option 6: Fuck you, fuck this, fuck everything and Jaron most of all
votes: 4
I'm waiting for the cupcakes to be done. I'm bored. Yeah, that's right.
Ever thought of writing Wag ? I find your use of language as inventive as it is evocative :)
EDIT: and I loathe these smilies - except this one :P
G.
I'm not sure where Kapland fits but I'd say roughly the second year. Still gaining new people, Crunchy's emo attention whoring gone, Monkeybutt still not a complete grouch, Jaron was becoming an entertaining troll rather than just doing lame insults.
Consolidation because that's when I have become active here.
Around 2003.

Yeah, though I'd move it back to late 2002, before the heavy-handed modding set in, and Paradox began to look on EUOT as an albatross around their neck.
Whenever Sav started writing Fanfiction.
There is nothing stopping this from becoming a Second Golden age, though I think we need some new blood.
I lurked for years, starting around 2001/2002. I'd have to say Pre-Diaspora EUOT.
I don't think I can make up my mind on this - some periods were better for some things but worse for others.
For example, initially, on the pre-diaspora Paradox, there was a lot of cool stuff going on, like the EU RPG. But now I know a lot of you a lot better, and some of you are my real life friends, so in that sense it is better than anything before.
We went from a gaming forum to a social network. It's like comparing apples and oranges.

You should change your smiley settings then. The version that says something like forum / board default has all of our old languish smileys
I picked Consolidatoin(sic). That's when we became an insular, dysfunctional family. :)

Yeah, but the place was crawling with Russophiles. Now, we only have one Russophile (Spellus), and a few actual Russians (yourself, Sahib, etc.).
Doubted between the first two, ended up voting for #2, Languish's emergence.
The first. Things were not yet hostile and polarized, it was possible to discuss controversial topics with posters from very different perspectives in a courteous manner.

Well, that was certainly part of it. However, the same HoI nazifanboitards were usually the same anti-American Euroweenies. Funny how that works.
At the time I was more forgiving than I am now, after more years of dealing with cruddy ass vendors. So I remember being exasperated with the responses to what I felt to be legitimate concerns by the mods and Paradox staff. They no doubt felt they were under attack and over reacted.

No. You know those Confederate fanbois Lettow is an extreme example of? Well, Europe is choke full of people like that, only they are sickeningly fixated on their pet WW2 issues and ethnical "injustices". With HoI they got their wet dream game and flocked the P'dox forums. A whole new market. The horror. The downfall.
As for debates, I dunno. Languish has overgrown that stage, and is now a "social network" as Marty put it. Most people don't "venture out" to communities which disagree with them on their major world view, why should we? And I think we still have some good discussions. To read some extremely insightful and informative posts from some of the intimidatingly knowledgeable people here... then flame them, is what makes this place great. :D
Oh and slightly on topic: I have had to realize that because of Languish I have grown a bit accustomed to launch my take on an issue rather bluntly and boldly in any RL discussion. I used to be more polite, people, damn you! :P
I do remember this one jerkoff who had a nutso freakout because for about 1/2 a second on the opening the American flag was super imposed by the Swastika during the montage of combatants' flags and thought Paradox was calling Americans Nazis.

That has been mentioned many times, and I did so myself as well. Languish desensitizes people against verbal violence, and we tend to expect more or less the same outside of it.

Yeah that's true.
The flipside of that however is that Languish really teaches you how to argue on the internet (and I don't just mean insults). I have found it almost too easy to destroy someone in a debate on various internet boards, because most people out there argue in a way that is way below the Languish standard.
Debate? I'm not here for debate. My mind isn't going to be changed by a bunch of internet virgins, homos, emos and fucktards.
I've almost slipped a few times in real life as a result of Languish. Not long ago I was talking to a friend who is a manager of a fast food place. She was complaining about one of the drones who worked for her and I was miliseconds away from saying something like, 'if he is such a moron that he can't do better than burger king I'm not surprised he is useless.'

The thing is that, save for a few people on a few issues, here almost nobody is going to, gasp and horror, change their minds, opinions, or admit that they're wrong. The Languish crowd is, for the most part, a bunch of stubborn jerks who prefer to call each other names rather than discuss politely. That's something that the current Languish will never have on the Golden Age P'dox OT or even the earlier Languish.

It's undeniable that it's a very important part of Languish "charm" and personality as a community, but it's something that is difficult to swallow for the uninitiated, and a big reason of why it has become so closed, insular and self indulgent.

What golden age.
Trifora era was the Golden Age. By my reckoning (which is really all that matters in the end.) we are currently in the Iron Age (think 80's comics and you understand my system)
I thought now was the Platinum Age.
Anyway I suppose the Trifora period since that was when I started posting on Languish alot. :)
I agree that the HoI crowd destroyed the "golden age" of the Paradox forums. And as P'dox started focusing ever more on this group (which is fine, because they are their largest customer group) I grew less and less interested in their products.

More along the lines of Poltergeist clown
Tri-fora was the golden age, with pre-diaspora a close second.
Never really got the Paradox experience. I would say early Kapland, though, and by early I mean before I was one of the mods. We made everything too neat and tidy, and it took away a lot of the venue for screaming vitriol. Kain and Carolus (damn, I can't even remember his Kapland nick!) screaming at anybody who dared to talk about music other than metal (thanks, Siege, for picking up that meme ), routine WKAPs and ThunderDomes, and people mistaking Sandbox threads for serious ones (usually me) made it the most entertaining point for me.
While I couldn't just walk away from this after actually getting involved, there's times when reading through Languish doesn't carry any more impact for me than browsing the front page of CNN.

Kapland, obviously. It's when my unique talents could be best used to make people cry.
