Been invited to some distant relative's anniversary party in Ontario in July. Anyone situated thereabouts? Good place to go? Easy to get to other places? Languish Canuck meet?
Where exactly? Ontario = huge. :)
You can spit and hit Detroit from some parts of Ontario.

The party's in Wingham ONT, but I think my second cousins are nearer Toronto. Well, an hour and a half away, which is "near" in Canuck terms.

I think that's happening a lot to Detroit.
Hockey fans: Paul Henderson (who scored the winning goal against Russian in the '73 world series) will be there.
I'm in Toronto, as is Sask and some others - naturally, I'd be up for a Toronto meet, and I'd be happy to suggest stuff to do.
Wingham is NW of Kitchener. not too far. but lacks train service, so its bus or car rental. but when you come, you'll land in Pearson in Toronto. best bet for a meet is to plan to have a few days before or after your family do. :bowler:
I'm in on condition I get an autograph from Paul Henderson. :P
anyhow, we have myself, HVC, Malthus and Josephus in the city. none of us bite. we all like beer.
need a crash pad?
I've got a spare room too, but you'd probably be better off staying with Sask - unless you want a three-year old crawling all over you.

Brazen is totally into kids I hear so that shouldnt be any problem no?
we'll I have a floor :D, but can get a bubble mattress on loan. My 'hood is probably a lot more fun and is an excellent slice of Toronto.
I'd probably be over 4-18 July, with the family party in the middle weekend (or might shift those dates by a couple of days so I have a full jetlag free Languish weekend).

I have a football game on the afternoon of July 7th (Riders!!!@ Argos), but otherwise I am cool in humid July.
OK, so the best plan would be to arrive and leave midweek, then I'd have the second weekend (Around the 18th) free for Languishing. I'm liking this plan.
Brazen, when you are visiting our eastern cousins please keep in mind, as you are dripping in sweat in the unbearable humidity of their summers, that the climate in Vancouver is much more civilized. Please don't go back home to tell everyone how horrible "Canada" is. Keep in mind that you have only been in Ontario and it sucks there.
Are internal flights affordable? And do you have a spare room? :P

Not really. For one thing, it's a similar distance. For another, you have to take into account the surcharge that is on there because of how much Canadians hate each other, in order to discourage internal travel.

The difference if flying time is only about 3-4 hours depending on weather/wind conditions which is not that much when considering the flight to Toronto can take 5-6 hours depending on those same conditions.

Cats deserve the treatment Goats/Sheep are getting in the Galapagos.
be careful what you say or you may wake up one morning on Sask's floor with KATmai sleeping on your chest.

Quote from: BuddhaRhubarb on April 03, 2009, 11:50:13 AMA friend of mine from the east coast came here recently and his wife forbade him to leave the hotel for fear of a gangland hit (he's a healthcare bureaucrat)... We met up at a pub well known about ten years ago for people named "Gill" getting shot all the time... now it's just a sports bar... we kept the gang sign s to a minimum though.
I was recently in a foreign city researching crime and gang violence. Very frequently I was met with a "why are you HERE researching this topic, aren't you from Vancouver?"
Nonetheless, it doesn't touch on the lives of ordinary citizens. Mostly the gang people seem to kill each other, which is fine by me.
If I didnt hear reports in the paper that our city was violent, I would have no idea.

I just went on Air Canada's website.
A direct flight, Vancouver to Toronto is 4 h.30 mins
A direct flight, Vancouver to Heathrow is 9 h10
I'm no lawyer, granted, and not as well educated, but just under 5 hours is more than "a bit". And Toronto has better food than London.
Thanks for that. I thought I was going crazy.

The party's in Wingham ONT, but I think my second cousins are nearer Toronto. Well, an hour and a half away, which is "near" in Canuck terms.
Oh, cool it's only 1087km from home! Almost next door.

train is 275$ each, up to Toronto. Although I can take the train from here, it seems this Wingham is such a remote place that there's no railroad there :P
Nah, probably can't go anyway. July is usually busy.
that's fine. the rest of us are meeting in Toronto anyway.
*Bump* for Brazen
still flying in July 17th?
