This is the week that the league makes sure the Steelers make the playoffs and in the process attempt to exclude the Ravens.
With God, Big Ben, and the REFS! How can we lose?!?
If I look at the standings correctly, I am obligated to root for the Stillers in that game.
Which makes me ill.
Texans (7-7) - Dolphins (7-7) this week. The Dolphins, strangely enough, have never beaten Houston in four tries.

Why? You don't think the Bengals can win another game this season? Cheering for the Steelers to win is beneath you.
At any rate, the Steelers can't make the playoffs anyways, no matter how bad the NFL wants them to.

The Chiefs?
If the Bengals can't beat the Chiefs, they shouldn't be in the playoffs anyways. Do you really want the Bengals coming into the playoffs and getting beaten 48-3 by the Broncos or 41-7 by the Ravens?
I'm not getting my hopes up.
Why would the NFL Network want to show the Tuck Rule game? It's one of the NFL's most embarrassing moments.
Jesus, the Titans are being beat like a red-headed stepchild.
That was a rather convincing showing by the Super Chargers. The Colts should be very afraid. And Chris Johnson got me my weekly 20+ points in my fantasy league.
Jerome Harrison, Marion Barber III, Thomas Jones, and Adrian Peterson. Which 3 should I start? :hmm:

I don't think that they're afraid of Norv.
At any rate, this is the Chargers' last year to win. Next year their running game is going to fall apart, and you'll start to see teams employing regular-sized people as cornerbacks, countering the Chargers' basketball players. Their defence doesn't scare anyone, at least not since Merriman stopped juicing.

I benched Barber last week after his failure the week before to gain 1 yard in four tries. Figures it'd bite me in the ass. He has been a streaky bastard this year. I figure AD is pretty much a guarantee. Barber has the Redskins, who were mauled by Bradshaw last week, Jones has Indianapolis who might rest starters, and Harrison has Oakland, whose rushing defense is atrocious. Factor in Derek Anderson under center, and I don't see much passing going on. I could be wrong though. It's mainly a debate between Jones and Harrison I think. Maybe. Dammit, I don't know. <_<
I have the same debate as last week between Flacco and P. Manning. It was a non-issue last week as Manning did play the entire game, and Flacco had a surprisingly good game.
RIght now leaning towards Manning playing, but I keep checking sports sites...

Take Manning.
QuoteIn three losses to the Steelers last season, Flacco was sacked 10 times, threw five interceptions and lost a critical fumble that became a quick seven points for Pittsburgh.
Less than a month ago, the Steelers again pounded Flacco - for five more sacks - though he achieved payback in a 20-17 overtime victory. With 289 passing yards and no turnovers, it was easily the best of his four games against the Ravens' biggest rival.
Like I said, take Manning. The Ravens are going to run, run, and then after that, run some more.

Blech blech blech. Fucking Saints.
And the Texans are still undefeated vs. Miami. What is this ---> :homestar:
Edit: Oh the Ravens lost? That both sucks, because Pittsburgh got a W, but is also awesome because the Texans are still alive for the playoffs because of it. The bad news is, IIRC, it requires a Denver loss to KC next week for them to get in (in addition to a Houston W, of course). Probably something else that won't ever happen involved as well.

So with the early games finished, I lead Katmai 41-30. Unfortunately I only have 4 players left, while katmai has 9. :bleeding:

You have to love the Western New York TV market. We got to watch the Giants and Bills games in their entirety as both teams managed to get trounced. Reminds me of the late 80's and early 90's when the TV stations wouldn't change games no matter how ludicrous the score got.

Harrison. He had the best game out of my running backs today, but not dramatically so. 21.80 for him, 17.00 for Barber, and 19.10 for Jones.
I was certainly surprised to see both Saints and Colts lose, breaking their win streaks. Saints got beat by a poor team, while the Colts seem to have lost in the last few minutes in a close game with the NY Jets, from what I could tell with the sports highlights.

Pats clinch the playoffs!
And get to become one of four teams that will play for the honor of being beaten by the Colts or Bolts. :P

Oh and thanks for that "problem player" TE Browns :P
Did you see on ESPN this morning that, in addiition to the standing invite by Carolina, Cowher is expected to get back into coaching next year, and was contacted by Tampa Bay for 2010?
He'd fix that franchise.
I have been hearing that rumor. I didn't like it too much at first as the current Head Coach has made some decent moves and called some decent games on defense recently and shows signs of improvement. Key problem is they already have to overhaul part of the staff this off season but word is some key assistance are going elsewhere next year for other jobs and if the whole staff except head coach needs to be changed anyways might as well finish the job. Their special teams coach, one of the best in football as evident by all the block kicks and run backs this year, is likely heading to college to coach with a good friend.
Cowher would have better success assembling a new staff and while current HC Morris has shown improvement I don't really trust him to assemble a good staff at this point. I personally don't like the 3-4 but if he doesn't change it or at least not totally then Cowher would be a big boost due to the FAs and coaches he could bring in to go with the young player core of the Bucs. I like the recent signs of life but it appears a new rebuild of the coaching staff is coming anyways so might as well try to improve the HC at the same time.
As long as he is off TV, then good luck chin. Dude sucks on CBS.
Brandon Stokely gets ejected for being a dumbass.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I expect. I didn't really expect too much from the Pats this year. :(

Indeed. Although I bet the official (probably the field judge) who had that matchup probably feels bad about missing the call on that one.
Quote from: CountDeMoney on December 27, 2009, 08:57:28 PM
Frank Walker's illegal contact penalty on Zbikowski's intereception was the incorrect call because Roflsburger was outside the pocket. QB outside the pocket = illegal contact calls no longer count.
But don't tell the refs that when the league's marketing plan is on the line. Rulebook out the window.
At least you didn't have Hochuli calling the game. I swear that f*cker over-officiates every game he calls, just to maximize his TV face time.
Hochuli doesn't ever seem to get Ravens games.

He'd probably end up in a fight with Ray-Ray at midfield after spending another 20 minutes explaining how his bad call screwed the Ravens over for the 5th or 6th time that game.

Count yourself lucky. He's the last thing you need in a referee: an attention whore.
He doesn't do many Bungles games either, come to think of it.
FWIW, the absolute worst NFL ref I've seen in action is that moron Jerome Boger, who did the Bungles-Broncos game in week 1. I think he broke the single-game records for: most times forgetting to turn his mic on, most times forgetting to turn his mic *off*, announcing the wrong penalty or totally mispronouncing it, and calling the wrong # of the player who committed a penalty.

Is that the black ref with the gumbo accent?

Yeah. I guess he was an affirmative action hire, but I'd have to think they had better selections than him. If they wanted to get another black guy in the NFL referee corps, they should have gotten someone like Mike Carey, the dude who makes that sweeping arm motion when he signals which team the penalty is against.
Harumph. They need to throw more often to Shiancoe.
I told you so Beeb.
This is crazy. On both of my league finals I am down by a single point.
I'm cheering like mad for Shiancoe and Forte, and booing Peterson and Longwell.
I feel so dirty. :Embarrass:

And Longwell's xp is blocked
Beeb i think you just won the title.
:yeah: :yeah:
I told ya they needed to throw to Shiancoe.
Well with 2 Peterson TDs my other Fantasy game is toast.
And katmai, with only a 4 point lead (soon to be 3 with the XP) our game isn't over either.
But all my focusing on Fantasy Football is detracting from a heck of a game. :)
Go Vikes.
It's weird, its the first time in my life that I am actually watching MNF on ESPN.
Oh FFS. :bleeding:

Down by 9 point with AD left to play. Dear Hod, I don't ask for much, but could you please see fit to give me this victory? Thanks.
Hod be praised! :yeah: Now to have Favre lose or get maimed in the remaining 5 minutes. It's rough rooting for Cutler and the bastards that traded Orton, but Favre is just that evil.
My man crush on Favre knows no limits.
Now i just need Longwell to win it in OT :P
Kick return for a TD. Come on. Fucking Favre. How I loathe him. <_<
:yeah:
:bleeding:
3 and out. :(
Oh noes.
:yeah: :punk: Fuck you Favre!
I step away to feed the dogs for two minutes... :frusty:
At least I beat Katmai.

 To victory! I won in my other league with Peterson's performance tonight.
Damn it. We cannot allow Jay Crybaby Cutler to be successful.
Ture, but he's better than Brett "The EGO" Favre.
Strange I predicted this game would end on a Favre interception but instead Peterson fumbles.
Cutler () gives the Danes 3rd place in LFFL!
Good game with a great result. It's a shame that the Vikings must be crushed, but their use of Favre is unforgiveable.
I'm disappointed that Katmai let a Canuck win the LFFL. For Shame!
lol, December Favre.

Again, I don't really see blaming this one on Favre either. He almost saved the game by putting it into OT in the first place.

Yet again proving the superiority of the three down game. :)
Hey four Texans made the Pro Bowl: B. Cushing, A. Johnson, D. Ryans, and M. Williams. Schaub, Leach (the fullback), and Jacoby Jones are alternates. Not too bad at all.
I'd forgotten they were playing the Pro Bowl the week before the Super Bowl in Miami this year. How irritating. I understand they need ticket sales and all that, but this pretty much guarantees that none of the guys who are in the Super Bowl with play in the Pro Bowl (not that they care).
