Polish town buys new donkey for Norwegian round-the-world couple
A Polish town has bought a new donkey for a Norwegian couple whose animal was slain while they were hiking with it through the country as part of an around-the-world trip.

Marianne and Werner Lovlie have spent 28 years hiking across the globe with three donkeys and several dogs.
But one of their donkeys was shot and killed on Sunday night while they were camping in the woods near the city of Golub-Dobrzyn.
Jan Kuzminski, deputy governor of the region, said on Friday that officials had purchased a new animal for the hikers.
Speaking on TVN24, Mr Kuzminski said authorities meant the purchase to be an apology. Residents had expressed outrage over the killing of the donkey.
Police are investigating the incident and believe that an illegal deer hunter mistook the donkey for a doe.
What an ass of a hunter. But: not guns kill Norwegian donkeys, blind Polish hunters do.

If they weren't from Norway but from Hungary or Romania, they'd probably not be called "round-the-world couple" but something like "homeless gipsies".
Do I see a donkey and a dog kissing each other in the picture?

Difference of course being that this couple probably pay their way, instead of stealing and cheating.

Fixed if for you ;)
I'd be interested in knowing how the couple have been paying their way this whole time. Surely whatever money they brought with them has since run out?

Norwegian welfare should go a long way in most countries of the world.

Judging by the pic it's not exactly 5-star travel. I would think that many of the people on this board over the age of, say...35, could easily sell up and spend the rest of their lives travelling round the world with a donkey. It's just that it's not really that appealing a prospect :D

And quite frankly, a lot of people of that generation could do it 5-star style if they wanted aswell. With property prices rising the way they have, a large portion of the older generations who built or bought in the 60s and 70s now sit on houses and appartments often without any mortgage worth generally anywhere up to $1m and given in addition some relatively high pensions, they are an economically powerful bunch.
