Title: Title inflation
Post by: Monoriu on March 27, 2009, 04:57:30 PM
So a "vice president" of a big bank in Hong Kong was convicted of grabbing the boobs of a random female in a public place.  The VP is 30 years old.

I was perplexed.  The bank does not have a "president".  The big shots are all either "general managers" or "executive directors".

Turned out VP is just a branch manager.

Title inflation is also rampant in the civil service.  There are plenty of "chief executive officers" around.  That confuses people to no end.

Any other examples of title inflation?

My company has a lot of vice presidents. They are the third level of hierarchy from the top, usually reporting either to a member of the board (highest level) or the second highest level (not sure how that is called actually). A director is below a vice president in my company.
