Not a bad list.  I played the crap out of many of them as a kid.  But how is Duck Hunt on it?  It was always sort of a filler game, whose novelty value wore out after about 10 minutes.*  Perhaps its main value was in spurring future shooter games?

*Although you could arguably get another 10 more minutes when you discovered player two could actually move the duck.   ;)

Oh man.  Blades of Steel, Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Baseball Stars, Life Force, Castlevania, Tecmo Super Bowl, Mega Man <#>, Double Dragon II.....

Most of these games on the list are awesome, but these right here are the ones I played the most by far.

Thanks for the link. I haven't played Legend of Zelda in forever. It's hard to play that even Ocarina of Time for Nintedo 64 is almost 11 years.

20. Kid Icarus

Why has there never been a sequel to this?  Metroid, Zelda, and Mario all turned out awesome in 3D on the GC and Wii and Kid Icarus would too.

Great list though.  I played the hell out of a lot of those games as a little kid.

Lot of classics on there.  River City Ransom is one of my all time favourites, what a fun fun game.  Crystalis and Faxandu were both super good rpgs as well.  One missing from this list is the Wizardry release on NES, I played the crap out of that game.

Also lots of Sunsoft games on the list... those guys made some killer games, hard as heck to beat as well.

It may be niche but the Koei games were also awesome, i'm surprised by the lack of them on this list.

Yeah the NES and, regrettably, the X-Box were the only consoles I ever owned.  The NES provided me with endless hours of entertainment.  The X-Box was a miserable piece of garbage that broke down at the drop of a controller.

Never again.

Super Mario 2 was great.

I really enjoyed most of the KOEI games. Genghis Khan I played for hours as a kid. Sometimes I'd even play all four at once. Once, I even had the four conquer the map in equal parts and then just passed on turns and wrote down family trees for them all. :nerd: I finally got bored in 1380 or something. :P

Genghis Khan II on the snes was a joke. Too cartoony, too much catering to the graphics crowd.

I could never get into the Asia games like Romance of the Three Kingdoms or Nobunagas Ambition. Just don't care about China or Japan. A game like those placed in France or Italy would have been awesome.

"Lord Medici, please enter orders."

In this era of insane graphics and WoW, its hard to believe how much hype simple games like Super Mario Brothers 3 used to generate.

Thinking of what I've played on emulators though....best NES games-
Pirates
Manic Mansion

It's because we North Americans got assraped by Nintendo, once more. For reasons unknown the Jappos got to play the real SMB2 (known here as The Lost Levels) while we got another game, Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Pani, reprogrammed into a Mario Bros game and sold to gullible kids as a sequel.

Only the Power Glove ranks lower, because it's so bad. That, and the putrified piece of garbage Nintendo made of Metal Gear for the North American NES, while Kojima's original version kicked ass. Kojima himself said, using other words, that in all the NES version sucked.

I agree, if only because Yoko Kanno's music, especially Toki no Shirabe, is superb even in NES midi version. I have it on one of my soundtracks (plus the whole soundtrack of SNES' Nobunaga's Ambition: Lord of Darkness, which is dementially good) but it can be listened on Youtube as well.

When your game's soundtrack is composed by a worldwide composer like Yoko Kanno, your game's bound to be on a best's list.

Nah that wasn't it.  It had all these egg headed characters you put on your team.  I remember there was a witch named Zelda who used a broom for a bat.  In the out field some of the characters could jump up and float to catch the ball.

Problem is that some games I confuse with Super Nes games.  I did like this one where you were an Indian called Wumpum.  Zelda was probably the best game though.

And I liked Super Mario 2.  Killing the last guy by making him eat his vegetables is an important lesson for children.

Really?  That was the only Castlevania game I actually liked.

It did have that one really hard jump.

And text randomly popping up announcing night or day that you couldn't bypass, pausing the game for thirty seconds or so every single time.

And ridiculously easy bosses to beat. You can just pass them to reach the orbs.

And incomplete or outright incorrect information from NPCs.

And no monster in Dracula's final castle.

And Dracula appearing as... a Grim Reaper, and ridiculously easy to kill.

I think I vaguely remember the hard jump.  It definately wasn't a perfect game, but I enjoyed the rpg elements of the game over the simple action style of the original.

NPC in town:  (insert random number here) will solve Dracula's riddles.   ;)

He is pretty funny, I get a real kick out of his Cinemassacre movie reviews.  His cartoon Transformers movie review is classic.

His argument on how SMB3 was made by Satan, because it was so good it was a sin, it also priceless.  :P
