Putting North Carolina against Nelson seems somewhat arbitrary, given she is a contemporary of KGV.
Voted North Carolina on this poll; Nelson is just too ugly to be adequately described in words. Dunkerque has the same aesthetic flaws as Richelieu, and Scharnhorst looks top heavy.

I could have used either, really. However, Rodney was the quintessential treaty battleship, and so deserved to be the British entry.
I've always defined the generations as:
1 - Early dreadnoughts - anything with a wing turret
2 - Superdreadnoughts - all-centerline main battery designed prior to or during WWI.
3 - Treaty dreadnoughts - built to the specifications of the Washington and London treaties.
4 - Post-treaty dreadnoughts - anything built after the end of the treaty or when people started cheating.

That's what makes it so very German. Hell, their ships now are superstructure heavy.
I voted for the Krauts again.
Germans. Altough the French are a strong contender.
Scharnhorst is pretty.
The picture of the North Carolina is much cooler than the others, almost makes it unfair.
The Scharnhorst has too much crap piled on top of it.
The Rodney is too minimalist.
Looking at other comparable pics of each of the last two I have to go with the Dunkerque.
Close call between Scharnhost and Dunkerque (far, far prettier than Richelieu, but that photo hides the not-so-attractive stern). Voted Scharnhost.
Been aboard the North Carolina, but I think Scharnhorst looks better.
Pure aesthetics? Then I vote Scharnhorst.
Other: Vittorio Veneto

See "fourth generation" poll for Littorio/Vittorio Veneto.
Dunkerque.
Toss up between Dunkirk and Rodney. Went with the Brits.
Never liked the trailing superstructure of the Scharnhorst class (looks like something is missing aft of the funnel), so she is out. Dunkerque has a great hull line, but the stack is too far aft so it looks like something is missing forward of the stack. Rodney isn't ugly enough to be attractive-ugly like the Big Five. North Carolina has great balance and the second-best hull line, so takes the prize.
Scharnhorst all the way. The others look like someone was sick on the ocean.
Rodney is one fugly tub. Vote Scharnhorst.
The Scharnhorst looks badass.
Voted Iowa for the 4th generation poll.
I picked the North Carolina because I built a model of the ship when I was a wee lad. Then set it on fire.

Atomic testing of surplus ships and surplus glue.
I blew up the Iowa and the North Carolina. I also melted the Arizona.

I beached my Big Wheel trying to get to the street, or else the driveway would've been blocked for months.

No one called me out on the irony of me making this statement? I'm disappointed in Languish. :(
I hereby call you out, Little Timmy Olsen, on the irony of making that statement.
Consider yourself CALLED!! Outwardly!
