Do they show that on public tv? If so that's pretty hard core.

I don't know what kind of public service announcements they air in your state, but they don't air anything like that here.
British chicks are not attractive. Was this the point of the PSA?

It would have been great if after the accident when the girl is looking around she reaches down for her phone and presses send.

We have quite a few cases of taxi/bus drivers crashing because they are overworked. Never heard of teenagers crashing because they text.
Yeah I haven't heard of any cases of that causing an accident here. Talking on the cellphone has apparently caused crashes tho, and there really isn't much of a difference.

Oddly, texting is more dangerous for truckers than talking, less for cars.

I think it was the cause of a train accident here, which quickly sped up getting the law against it.
Oh right, that sounds familiar. Wasn't there an MBTA accident in Boston a year or so ago also caused by a careless operator who was texting?
Four high school girls died a couple years ago here in Rochester in a car crash that has been blamed on the driver texting while at the wheel.
Same with a local college kid. There's a "Matt's law" drive on now.
Actually there was a girl in one of my classes a couple years ago that was seriously injured for the same cause. It's not that uncommon.
The B.C. government is about to outlaw texting while driving.
btw my wife was in a car accident on Thursday which the police suspect was caused by someone texting while driving. Traffic was stopped at a traffic light and a car went full speed (ie didnt break before making contact) into the vehicle behind my wifes car and that car was then pushed into my wife's car.
Thankfully no one was seriously injured.

While laws named after random individuals is stupid, at least this one has the benefit of being necessary.
In fact, anyone caught texting should be executed. Not just texting while driving, but texting in general. It is perhaps the most repulsive habit this modern world has birthed, save only Martinusism.

That said, people who use texting shorthand should be shot.

Agreed. It also avoids inconvenient timing. It's annoying to be called at a bad time, and it's also annoying to call someone else at a bad time (because sometimes they don't say it, but are instead getting antsy while trying to wrap it up).
I really can't fathom texting while trying to drive a car. Maybe in a traffic jam or something. Don't you have to look at the phone while you do it?

Yeah, I really don't get it. Talking on the phone I understand, at least you have the illusion of being able to observe around you. But with texting, shouldn't your survival instincts kick in at some point?

Yes. I did it once, in a traffic jam on the Schuylkill Expressway, and swore I'd never try it again.
I don't really see how it is different from reading a map or putting on makeup in the car.

In both of those cases, you've got some idea what you're looking for. You're glancing at something just to confirm what you're doing, and you can keep concentration elsewhere.
From personal experience, I thought that would hold true with texting, but I found it took so much concentration to manipulate the cell phone and read the texts that I got spooked about how distracted I was and stopped.

People stare pretty intently into their fold-down mirrors when putting on makeup.
