The 360 Elite has had a price cut, and I want one.
Can anyone suggest any must-have games? I mostly want it for some Football games, but it'd be nice to have a console again.
Fallout3
Left 4 Dead is fun if you like shooters.
Fable 2 is semi cute.
I've had my xbox since 2007, I think, and tbh I haven't had a single game I couldn't put down.
Crackdown is fun, and it should be cheap. You kill lots of gang members.
I want one too :(
Choice : Refrigerator or a Sexbox 360 :(
GTA 4.
Dead Rising.
But, you know it's not an Apple product, right?
:P

Indeed - it's even made by Micro$oft.
I'm not that much of an Apple partisan.
I second the suggestions for Fallout 3, GTAIV, and Left 4 Dead. GTAIV can be had pretty cheaply now, but I would wait for the GOTY edition of Fallout 3 since it will have all 5 DLC's included.
Madden 09 would be good if you want a cheap football game, ditto for NCAA 09. If you wanted to buy a current football game, I would go with NCAA 10 if you had to choose between that & Madden 10.
Also recommend:
Bioshock (widely available for less than $20)
Battlefield 1943
Scene It (movie trivia: good game for getting your wife or friends to play)
Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway
Rainbow Six: Vegas (and R6V2)
Civilization: Revolution
Call of Duty 4
Call of Duty: World at War
Xbox Live also has 3 free downloadable games, but the only one I got any enjoyment out of was Dash of Destruction (brought to you by Dorito's :) ).
Mass Effect looks awesome.
And the newest ace combat.
Also, for anyone in the US looking to buy an Xbox, it looks like Microcenter has an in-store only deal where you get a $50 gift card on top of the price drops for an 360 Pro or Elite. Assuming you were planning to do some future shopping at Microcenter anyway, this makes the effective price $200 and $250, respectively.
Mass Effect.
And then you can get Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 when they come out. Support Canadian games! :Canuck:
One other side-note: if you're trying to get the absolute latest chipset (jasper), the best bet is to buy an Arcade. One way to know for sure if it has Jasper is to to check if it has the 512MB of onboard storage.

Should that really be an issue by now?

In support of Canada, you can also buy Assassin's Creed 1 & 2, Batman Arkham Asylum (don't listen to them, half of it was made in Montreal), Lost : Via Domus (Support me!), Avatar, Spiderman 3.
and you know, any EA Sports game.

Doesn't make a huge difference to me personally, but the Jasper boxes do consume less power and are supposedly less susceptible to the RROD. But the huge MS warranty (plus the fact that I keep my Xbox in a well-ventilated area) makes me not worry much about the RROD.
I think he meant finding Jasper boxes in elite form.
I've only broken one xbox so far. Wasn't your box a refurbie/used spiess? Hows it holding up?
No, I mean that what are the odds of any pre-Jasper Elites even remaining on store shelves?
I tried to get a Jasper but ended up with the iteration right before Jasper. I haven't had any problems except for one weird thing where my power went out and the Xbox wouldn't turn on thereafter. I had to unplug the power brick from the back of the unit and then plug it back in. It turned on fine once I did that.
Get a PC instead

Ah, got it. Apparently there are quite a few still out there (for both Pro and Elite). As I said, the only way get a Jasper for sure is to get an arcade with the 512mb of internal storage. Otherwise it's YMMV unless you can get the merchant to swear it's a Jasper.
But again, I do think the Jasper thing is a little overblown. All things equal, is it better to have one? Yeah. But it's probably not worth losing any sleep over.
So after considering the other option and its most recent firmware update (ps3) I caved and went for the xbox.
Must say im already a bit annoyed. I wanted it as a multimedia system plug and play with windows but for some reason a wired xbox doesnt communicate well with a wireless PC. Ergo I need to buy the separately sold wlan adapter (Since then they are "in the same network" (???))
To compare I could have bought a PS3 already having that wireless, blu ray, free PS network, games, bigger HD and more cpu for 10 euro's more.
It is that im a lazy dut and will stick with my purchase but I hope after another bucket of money it will be the system I bought it for. Good thing Dead Rising 2 is on the horizon :P
Dude, no. You don't *need* to buy their drastically overpriced network adapter. It's possible to jury-rig one from a cheapo Linksys router, which is what I did.
If you think it would also have been easy on a ps3, you are mistaken.

O thats very good news. Almost bought it today but was too disgusted by the price :D
So I just get any linksys router and there is a trick that will make it work?

I would try to focus on a Linksys WRT54G or any variation (WRT54GL, etc.). They should be cheap, and I'm guessing they're still available. Install the third party DD-WRT or Tomato firmware & then make some fairly simple changes in the configuration.
Or if you're nervous about playing around with router firmware & don't want to mess with any settings, there are some fairly cheap "wireless bridge" type devices out there that will do the same thing out of the box..

Found one second hand WRT54GL for 30 euro. Thats definitly better than the 80 euro ripoff Microsoft was pulling on me. :)
Woot (http://www.woot.com/) has a refurbished Linksys WGA-600N for $38 delivered, if anyone needs one. Today only, of course, just like all Woots.
Do you like turn based RPGs? If you do then you should play Lost Odyssey. It's really pretty and fun.

I think Dell is also running a special that gets it to you for like $215 after rebate. Microcenter (if you're lucky to have one nearby), gives you a $50 store gift card, which effectively makes it $200 after rebate assuming you're likely to spend $50 at Microcenter in the future.
Crap
Buying a 360 today. I will look around for a wireless router of some sort.
But since I'm not really into online gaming, and just want to be able to access updates periodically, can I just make a wired connection by moving the xbox to where the computer is?

Yep. it comes with a cable. I'd say about 10 feet or so.
Cool.
At least it did 3 years ago. Haven't poked through a box recently.
Bought a 360 Elite. Came with wireless router in the box.
But man - they don't make connecting very easy...
Also - I suck at Halo. :Embarrass:
The sexbox is connected.
Also, when I asked my wife about buying it, she said "is that the one you can play guitar hero on"? :shifty:
So in addition to the Sexbox and NCAA 2010, I also walked out of EBGames with GHWT.

By the way I'm vaguely disappointed that nearly a year after they were introduced, the Elite system I bought yesterday was still not a Jasper.

Yup. I made mine with an old WRT54G router hacked w/DD-WRT.
I no longer need it though, because when I switched to DSL from cable, I plugged my DSL modem in right next to my entertainment center, so now my X360 is on a wired connection directly to my WRT350N.

It probably had to do the major update from late last year-- basically a total update of the entire interface. The old interface looks dated by comparison, so the update was well worth it.
And btw, they got that scrolling "twist" menu interface from the... Zune :o
Also Beeb, there is probably some upnp media server software out there for the Mac that will work with the Xbox. I think you can even get the excellent Playon software to work on it.
Oh really?
Now that I got the networking to work it would be a handy way to stream files from the computer to the tv in the basement...

Turn based right? Do the HOMM* games count? Than certainly those. And recently picked up King's Bounty which is same style and surprisingly extensive. It misses the auto combat (for the less interesting battles) of HOMM but good fun :)
