I've been wondering about Microsoft's viability recently, since we have eight years worth of options to do something with. In a lot of ways, they've been playing catch-up for nearly a decade w/r/t licensing models, search, virtualization, etc. They've been considered a dog on Wall Street for a while. IMO, Bing might be a good forecaster of whether they can begin to revitalize again or just stagnate for another ten years. So, do you like Bing, and if so, why? Are they doing something substantially different here (should I short Google? :P ) or is this another example of playing catch-up?
No, I don't. I haven't tried it recently, but when I first tried it, it wasn't as good as getting me the hits I wanted.
I use google, because it is built into Safari.
But apparently MS's search numbers are up with Bing, and it has generated some positive reviews. The problem probably is that it isn't "better enough" to make people switch.
I remember back in the old days I used Alta Vista for my searches. The first time I tried Google it gave me such dramatically better results I switched almost immediately.
I tried Bing out a couple of times. It is prettier and gives some interesting results, but it isn't "better enough" to make me switch.
I'm in web development amongst other things so i use it for testing purposes. I find its results to be comparable to Googles. It's maps feature I find better than googles, I love their "birds eye view".

Suit yourself. Gives 4 directions and it's a nice feature that google lacks.
Google shows me how to take public transit. ^_^
Anyway, it just sounded like it was a cool feature and then it turns out that it is just a lesser version of street view.
It does look like SimCity though, so that's cool.
The commercials irritate the piss out of me.
I've used it once or twice when I wasn't finding what I wanted with google. IIRC it was succesful once.

Odd, it took me yahoo completely going to hell to switch.

Useless feature, unless you're poor.
I use it for videos and images searches as these seems to be better than Google's

Or in a city with an amazing transportation system like NYC.
as a search engine/toolbar/map system I dig google. I don't see the need to use bing. I use a MS OS and Office Suite so that's enough business for them from me.
Interesting fact: I got a fortune cookie a week or two ago with the usual "Learn Chinese" section on the back.
bing = disease.
True story.
I changed my default to Bing at work; so far I'm liking it. Results tend to be more relevant & less repetitive.
Do like the birds eye view option....just tried it after seeing this thread.
why? Their ads make me want to avoid it like the plague. I plan to never ever use it, not once. despite having hotmail as my main email, and seeing it all the time.
I will use Google until I have a compelling reason to do otherwise.

Yeah, that's true.
Maybe.
I use clusty, which gathers the results of other search machines and cluster them. So I could use it indirectly. I voted no.

Ever bing yourself to see what results you get?
