This isn't exactly new.  Universities have been cracking down on controversial speakers for a while now.  And like it or not, anybody who is going to talk about how Israeli actions in Gaza after October 7th were  wrong is a controversial speaker.

That's not what her presentation was about. She had one slide mentioning how Gaza was the most dangerous place in 2024 for aid workers.

Hardly surprising in a war zone no? This is yet another case of American institutions pre-emptively bowing to Trump. This is EXACTLY what not to do when fascists are in power.

Tbf, the left began the war on free speech in academia.  We've talked about it.  Now, the right has cranked it to 1000.

It's no more acceptable than it was before.  But it's a travesty to see leftwing media now complaining that it's an issue when it wasn't before for them.

I think it is more acceptable to oppose speech with social pressure than government coercion, but that's just me.

But granted that is just in the United States, I know you Canadians have hate speech laws and shit.

It was alarming that every time leftists would do some big social pressure thing in campus the right wing response was always 'DEFUND AND SHUT DOWN THE WHOLE UNIVERSITY' and I guess they are putting that into action.

Obviously it would be better if you opposed bad idea with good ones. Kind of wish we had stuck to that.
