It's the 'New thread for me to post my random musings in and so not clutter up other threads. :-)
Without election polls what's the point :(
Heard an owl last night hooting in the garden, not ever heard one around here before. :hmm:
Well owl be damned!

How many magpies do you have over there? We have been invaded. They are everywhere by default but some of the fuckers have taken over the nest on the neighbour's tree originally built by forest pigeons. They make the most ugly and annoying sound I have ever heard from any bird.
Magpies are indeed the devils bird.
I'm quite fond of crows though

A few, but being a bit more rural, crows and jackdaws predominate when it comes to corvids.
On evening a couple of weeks back around 400 metres from I stopped at a park to view what was going on, the sky was Full off 400-500 crows doing that mass flying display before the swoop down to roost.
Incidentally what are people's least used forms of transport?
Mine are planes and taxis.
I ask because I was trying to remember the last time I took a taxi, and it's a long time ago, despite having lived and worked in London I've only ever taken one black cab and that was with a female friend who was up visiting, but that must have been 35 years ago. :gasp:
I guess it's because if I'm in a city or town, even late if the journey is only a mile or so, then I'm walking by default, without thinking about it.
So what are yours?
Rocket sled?
Self serve bicycles.
Hovercraft and helicopters.
Quote from: Grey Fox on July 19, 2025, 08:58:30 AMSelf serve bicycles.
Yeah I used to use those a bit, when I visited London, but the app/regulations got too complicated and now every conurbation has a scheme and I just regard them as street rubbish. They look shite as well, as compared with the original Ken/Boris/Barclays bikes.

There's a hovercraft service from Pompey to IOW, that I'm planning on using, but I fear it's going to go into bankruptcy soon. :(
I used to take taxis a lot in New York, basically never in London as the cost is too dear. I have taken what I would call a car service a few times. In London the app minicabit is great for getting a discount on Addison Lee.
We had another volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula a few days back. Every eruption has longer and longer intervals so this might really be the final one around Grindavík.

I removed a wasp nest the size of a basketball under a rowan tree in my garden. My youngest son (11) spotted it with his friends and tried to knock it down with a stick but got stung for his troubles.

Two reminders that nature will win out, come what may.

The significant owl hoots in the night.

Shouldn't that be hovercraft and eels? :hmm:

I thought it was meant to be beautiful women under Icelandic trees?
Still taking dumps on the side of the road as you peddle through the countryside? The skid marks show through your cycling onesie, you know.

This is the sort of quality abuse I've been missing in recent years.
