So this fight which I thought was never going to happen, is apparently happening tonight.
It's being shown on Netflix, so most of you can watch it if you're curious.
In the pre-game videos Tyson looks real good - for a 58 year old. But Jake Paul looks to be in good shape as well, and he's 27.
Tyson has a ton of fighting experience. Jake Paul's experience seems to be mostly gimmick matches - but also some fights against legit boxers. And let's remember - he's 27.
I'm not a Mike Tyson fan - remember this is the guy who went to jail for rape, and who bit off part of Evander Holyfield's ear - but on behalf of old guys everywhere you can't help root for him. But I can't imagine this is going to end well.
Supposedly Tyson is a changed man, who has grown spiritually and become wise.
This seems like a bad set of qualities for a boxer.
I am not entirely sure who Jake Paul is but I vaguely get the notion he sucks. That and my 1980s Nintendo nostalgia puts me in a position where I emotionally kind of hope Tyson wins.
But maybe I am wrong and Jake Paul doesn't suck.

What're the odds that this is a real fight and not just a semi-choreographed brawl that ends with a pre-arranged winner?
Could be, maybe Jake gets pointers from his brother Logan who's in the WWE.
Hopefully this Paul guy gets crushed. Apparently quite the POS.
So this is just the Wrestling business model now being used by boxing?
Have you seen Tyson's neck? Not sure Paul has what it takes to put a dent in that.

50/50 at best.
I mean - both Paul and Tyson have ties to WWE after all.
My understanding is it's a sanctioned fight, which theoretically should mean it's not fixed the way pro wrestling is.
On the other hand - it's not like boxing has a squeaky clean image...
As far as I know Jake's other fights were real. And whichever side of the leaf iron mike is on now, he's still a psycho.
Now whether a 58 year old still has it in him to go the whole way, I don't know, but that's where pharmaceuticals come in to play.

"Iron Mike" has had money trouble for years.
I doubt he really wants to get into the ring at this point in his life, but for a reported $20 mil payday he's probably willing to do almost anything. Including (maybe?) take a dive.
He might want to take a dive, but like he said, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth. He's a ear eating fighting machine.
And if he fails to take the dive, what's the other side going to do, complain? :D

Tyson probably gets his $20 mil no matter what.
But what side deals do they have, and for what money?
What Paul's camp would do is not pay Tyson.
Tyson biting Holyfield was over 25 years ago. He's a much older man now.

Fair enough. I still think that crazy leopards don't change their spots. But I guess we'll see. Well, I won't, since I'm not watching, but I'll probably watch clips :D

Maybe not change their spots, but 100% people slow down.
I see that in my job all the time. All these criminal hell-raisers tend to just age out of the criminal justice system by their mid-40s.

That's where steroids come into play

It *is* a sanctioned fight though. So I won't say there won't be any steroids (and, at age 58, Tyson might be able to legally get some anyways) but it's not going to be the wild west.
It started, for those so inclined.
Maybe they can both lose. :)
I'm with Rogan. Anything but a KO of Tyson please.
Spoiler
On the upside the fix was not in. It was a real boxing match, except the rounds were reduced from 3 to 2 minutes. If it had been 3 Tyson would not have lasted long.
It was what you would expect when a 58 year old fights a younger man at his physical peak.
One of the commentators summed it up nicely in the fourth round - " this is hard to watch"
Sounds like it was a terrible advert for attracting new fans to boxing.
Not so bad. Tyson didn't get rocked, at least in these highlights.
Should of course have been marketed as "Rumble with a dongle".

For people who actually watch the fight yeah, but Yi's post demonstrates that in the age of social media, even the most boring of matches can be converted into something that was not so bad.
Here is the New York Times summary of how bad it was
QuoteThe anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul, the 27-year-old social media influencer, and Mike Tyson, the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion, ended in unspectacular fashion on Friday night as boos rained down from the crowd at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Paul was declared the winner after eight dull rounds during which Tyson looked slow and exhausted. Many fans watching at home were just as displeased: Netflix, which was airing the fight as part of its expansion into live programming, experienced a variety of technical difficulties.
Wait Jake Paul won on a decision? Well how lame is that?
He wasn't going to knock out a 58 year old man that seemed to have really bad foot speed and balance. TKO at best.

What did you think was going to happen? Tyson lost to ability to move or attack after the second round. He is 58 years old.

I don't know. Something stupid.
Father Time is undefeated.
This match was a prize fight, with some nostalgia for the once mighty champ and desire to see this douchebag Jake Paul get the shit kicked out of him.
Outside of this novelty match boxing is having a bit of a moment right now, largely thanks to Turki Al-Sheikh and the Saudi efforts to sports-wash their reputation.
The recent Beterbiev vs. Bivol in Riyadh was an all-time banger with a rematch coming. Fury vs. Usyk delivered as well and that rematch is right around the corner. Saudi's also just signed Inoue to some kind of deal and he is currently the most exciting and dominant boxer on the scene.
The last boxing match I ever watched was one of the Pacquiao-Márquez bouts. And I don't even remember which :P
I was out in the car today and noticed electric billboards along the road (dystopia :() that flash through ads and news. It had this as one of the main stories that kept popping up :bleeding:
